A UFO is an uidentified flying object as we ll know. The media has somehow twisted this into little green (or tall grey) men, who wish to be 'taken to our leader.' There are many theories as to what a UFO actually is. here are some (taken from that wonderful source of wikipedia);
* The Extraterrestrial Visitation Hypothesis (ETH): That UFOs are alien spacecraft * The Interdimensional Hypothesis: That UFOs are the results of objects crossing over from other dimensions * The Paranormal/Occult Hypothesis * The hypothesis that they are time machines or vehicles built in a future time. * The man-made craft hypothesis: That UFOs are top secret Russian or American aircraft And then there is the skeptical hypothesis; * The Psychological-Social Hypothesis * The unknown natural phenomena hypothesis, e.g. ball lightning, sprites * The Meteorological hypothesis—Peter F Coleman advanced a meteorological theory that many UFOs or unexplained lights are actually instances of visible combustion of a fuel (e.g., natural gas) inside an atmospheric vortex. He has argued his case in his book, Great Balls of Fire–a unified theory.[10] This vortex fireball theory was first published in Weather[11] and later in the Journal of Scientific Exploration[12] * The Earthquake lights/Tectonic Strain hypothesis * The Autokinetic effect hypothesis. * hoaxes I think that it is a mix of a lot of the above, some are hoaxes, some are unknown natural phenomena, some are secret governmental aircraft. Though I find it hard to swollow the alien theory at the moment. So I ask the question "What do you believe they are?"

What are your thoughts on this? Rather intriguing I must say.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me here, I've always been into UFO's etc, and recently I've been looking into ancient sightings, and came accross this one;
http://science.howstuffworks.com/ufo-history2.htm In A.D. 1211 Gervase of Tilbury, an English chronicler of historical events and curiosities, recorded this bizarre story: There happened in the borough of Cloera, one Sunday, while the people were at Mass, a marvel. In this town is a church dedicated to St. Kinarus. It befell that an anchor was dropped from the sky, with a rope attached to it, and one of the flukes caught in the arch above the church door. The people rushed out of the church and saw in the sky a ship with men on board, floating before the anchor cable, and they saw a man leap overboard and jump down to the anchor, as if to release it. He looked as if he were swimming in water. The folk rushed up and tried to seize him; but the Bishop forbade the people to hold the man, for it might kill him, he said. The man was freed, and hurried up to the ship, where the crew cut the rope and the ship sailed out of sight. But the anchor is in the church, and has been there ever since, as a testimony. Now this is quite an interesting tale if you ask me, though the problem is I can't find the Borough of Cloera or St. Kinarus mentioned anywhere unless it relates to this story. Has anyone else heard of this tale? Is it an actual reported historical tale or one that's just been made up? If anyone knows anything I'd appreciate it (also if someone could give me an recommendations on books looking at ancient sightings that would be great!) Thanks.

Now I can't find anything on this (sorry if there is I'm new in these here parts and won't know if it's been done to death) I was reading through another post and came across that Title 14, Section 1211 of the Code of Federal Regulations, implemented on July 16, 1969, make it illegal for U.S. citizens to have any contact with extraterrestrials or their vehicles.
This is quite astounding really, that this is mentioned! SO I decided to go through and look on the Code of Federal Regulations website to see whether it says that or not. As I found that place it said [reserved] (http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/waisidx_08/14cfrv5_08.html) which the site also states CFR files labeled "reserved" are being held by the issuing agency and are not available as of yet on GPO Access. Issuing agencies have the right to reserve a particular title, part, subpart, and so forth. Upon release, the information will be made available on GPO Access. Please contact the issuing agency for further information regarding these files. What does everyone thing?

According to the Sun (a tabloid we have in the UK) there have been a reported 150 UFOs so far this year...That compares with just 135 sightings reported to the Ministry of Defence for the whole of last year — and 97 the year before. According to the article the information was released under the 'freedom of information act' and an unnamed MOD spokesman said it was “open minded” about aliens.
This last quote is likely taken out of context being the Sun, but it is interesting to note that the figures are up. What I've also noted from various reports I've read in newspapers (we get a copy of all the dailies at work so I usually look for it) that the sightings generally are in the South of England, Wales or Scotland, usually to the west. Living in the North East of England, this has intrigued me as to why there have been so many sightings around the whole country, apart from my area, if anyone lives in the UK, it would be interesting to hear any theories on this, or I would also like to see what people think of the increase in activity over the UK. Thanks |
