help me figure out what i saw over the summer

i just watched the documentary 'ufo's the greatest story ever denied' and decided to search for some forums discussing it. I was just curious to see what other peoples reactions were to the video..well i discovered this forum and anyways it got me thinking about what i saw this summer, and i had never had the thought of posting what i saw on a forum until now! lol.. anyways here it goes

my girlfriend and i were at my parents beach house located in LBI (NJ) in early august 2008. It was around 930pm and my girl and myself were starting to drink out in the hot tub we have out back. Every now and again when we hang out either on the deck on the roof or in the hot tub, the stars are so much clearer there that i just sit and gaze.. that being said i have seen many many satellites and know what thier normal characteristics are. i have seen fairly bright satellites and fairly dim ones that are hard to see. well this one night i was sitting in the hot tub thinking to myself how awesome it would be to see a ufo.. i had seen 3 satellites already in about a 30 min period which was a lot for me... anyways i looking in one direction and i see what looks like a very bright star.. now, this when compared to satellites ive seen was much much brighter and either it was larger than or closer to me than all the satellites ive ever seen. .. going on i mentioned to my gf about how bright that one was, which she agreed (she hates when i look at ufo stuff online or talk abt it)... well anyway this bright star was moving slower than the satellites ive ever seen, and just suddenly it stopped. it then moved upward in the sky, somewhat quickly, and then stopped again... it then continued to move in an elongated up and down motion while still moving across the sky (kind of confusing im sorry its hard to describe).... it took up a lot of distance in the sky to do this but before it went out of sight it stopped again then after being stationary for a min or so it continued to move in a straight normal line out of sight... i was thinking to myslf h*ly sh*t what was that.. the only thing i can come up with is that either it was an enormous satellite that was using its thrusters to position itself (but then how would it be able to stop??) or it was a ufo... im sorry for the long post please if youve ever seen anything like this let me know what your impressions are.. and if i am a dumbass and it is a satellite well please let me know also.. thanks for reading!!
