According to my parents, I am mentally insane for my religious beliefs. I'm not going to tell you what they are, short of look in the Religion forum at the thread entitled "Pat Robertson" on the 3rd page. My mother threatened to have me put away because I called God a murderer.

Now, I'm 18, and legally an adult here in the US. My question is, are my parents still allowed to put me away even though they are not my legal guardians anymore?

I fear they would succeed, given that I have dealt with the people who run these kinds of places before. Once told by your parents that you're insane, these people disregard anything you say in your defense. I have been put in a sort of mental institution for my behavior in the past. The person they talked to just nodded his head at what I said in my defense like he wasn't interested, and he had his mind set. I will not allow myself to be locked away. I will prove I am smart by escaping if the need arises. I REFUSE TO BE TREATED LIKE A LUNATIC!

Now that you know this about me, I'm sure what I say will be taken unseriously.

Shit dude if half the people that I work with and see on a daily basis knew of my beliefs and opinions of things the would have me locked up by now. The trick is to convince everyone they were crazy to think you were crazy...only then will you know how crazy you are for justifications of actions and opinions are labeled in cultural acceptance and brown nosers to the system. AJ...go nucking futs on your own manifested reality/belief and flounder like a helpless fish...for this is what the men in white robes are looking for.

If your 18 why dont you think about going to collage and get away from the family scean for awhile/ get your own place...mabey you have one....all my 2 cents add up to is the result my experience in view of ME not you. So find your happy medium of twisted realities and dont go to an extream. You may find the men in white are on one side waiting with medication and on the other side you may find the men in black waiting with a needee full of control and propaganda....imo that is...

No fun in that, I enjoyed the dorm life, the horrible drinking spells, the crazy all night study sessions, your roomate catching you having sex with his girlfriend. Man, I miss college.

AJ: depending on where you live, you are not legally of age until you're 21. You can become an emancipated teenager, but then you'd have to give up all living at your parents and any financial help they may give you. I suggest you try to move in with a couple of friends and try it on your own for awhile. I did more changing in the year I was 18 than any other time in my life. This time is truly the time you "find"yourself. It should be a time of wonder and enjoyment with some adventure and naughtiness thrown in for good measure! (And I do NOT mean robbing banks, etc!)

AJ...there is a difference between wanting to be the Anti Christ or worshipping Satan and believing oneself to be the Anti Christ. There is no way anyone can involuntarily commit you, at legal age, unless there is reasonable belief on the behalf of the physician that you are a danger to yourself or others as a direct result of a mental impairment. Not for religious beliefs, no matter how undesirable, nor for any other reason. I am doubtful, though in no position to say, that your beliefs are the result of any sort of psychosis...ergo, you are not mentally insane. If you know the difference between right and wrong then you are not insane...a sociopath maybe but not insane. Not even Dhamer was insane.

It could just be that you are 18 years old, I mean not to sound mean, but that is one hell of a confusing period of a persons life. Yeah, it has it's good times, but it has as many bad times as well. But don't let it get you down, dude. In a few years, you'll be on your own, paying bills, worring about getting your girlfriend pregnent, having to go to work, and generally being constantly stressed out. Never mind, that was a real downer.

I was a social changeling, I hung out with everyone. I liked the metals guys, jocks, nerds, losers, band geeks, cheerleaders, and motorheads. I never hung out with the white rappers though.

I don't mean to sound insulting Angry J but I do not think you are insane! Actually from what I have read of your threads I find you very idealistic, centered, sensitive, insightful and a lot less self-centered then a lot of 18 year olds I know. I should be so lucky as to have a son like you. I have 2 daughters. You question stuff. You are supposed to. Don't doubt yourself. At 18 I was so angry I could barely write anything on paper. You see a lot of hippocracy but when you write about it you are able to stay a hell of a lot clearer then I was able to. Just stay yourself. Hey who is sane? Only an insane person would think there is such thing as sanity!
