There is this theory that the big cats in GB were brought there by the Romans.

You may not need to go quite so far Weird-Gal. My son-in-law was going home one night ,and he lives in Norfolk, and he said his car lights picked out this very big creature on the road and he was sure it was a big cat.

On the A47 near Ecklin Green near Swaffam. I Think that is right. That would have been about 10 yrs ago. Also a lady who he worked with who was a nurse at Norwich had a very good sighting of one south of Norwich and told him it looked very much like a panther.
My son-in -law didn't report it because at that time someone wanted to find them and shoot them and he didn't want that to happen.

You be careful girl. They aint exctly tameable! Here's a story for you. I was up at my brother's country place years ago. They have a lot of wild cats out that way. What happens is people bring their house cats up to the country but these same owners do not fix the males, so they do what cats do, wander and get lost. A pet cat that is male in heat will mate with a bob-cat or as Americans sometimes call it a wild-cat which is a smaller version of the lynx another wild cat and smaller cousins to the mountain lion or puma.

These ferret cats, or cats that are a mix of bob-cats and pet cats can get pretty big, say 40 pounds, the size of a racoon.

Well I saw this rather large cat, and thought oh neat, and went to pat it. It was outside my brother's country house sitting next to a bird feeder. I thought oh how nice, how cute. Walked up to it, the thing thought I was an idiot and lunged at me. Well I damn near pissed my pants and ran into the lake with my clothes on. My beloved brother simply laughed at me. His dog wouldn't go anywhere near the cat which took off into the bush.

From what the locals and farmers near-by tell me, once a cat is wild forget about taming them. Not going to happen. As for fool people who want to make pets out of tigers or pumas, these are wild animals! Even if you get them from when they are kittens they still are wild by nature and they will eventually turn on you, especially if you get in the way of them and their food supply. That is why you see even in zoos, the animal feeders never turn their backs on them or stand in a path in the way of their food.

This is why you don't try make a pet out of wolves, dingoes, zebras or big cats. Some animals aren't meant to be domesticated. (I used to say that about myself now I am fixed!)
