I was thinking (look out)

What is the whole purpose of any livingin organism? Is it for something much bigger than our living civilisation? Or what? Why are we here? What is our purpose?

Any ideas? Theorys?

Thats a real tough one!..........

I just had a thought, if there is a real reason why we are all here, then Fate/Destiny MUST exsist! like a pathway from us to where ever we go and what happens when we get there. Almost like donnie darko!

Anyway, my thoughts:

Hang on, if there is a reason, then we must have been placed here....IE: God may well exsist!

So here goes nothing!

This could be a possiblity: God Created earth and man and woman and tea cosy! man grew up to be a erm, dude, i guess, and gave woman one, which then created a lovely baby, who grew up to be a dude.....and so on.
Now the reason why we are all here is because this kept happening, (people havin intercourse), but when aliens came down for the first time, this must have been when god wasnt looking at the beginnings of man, they genetically altered us to become what we are today, living breathing wastes of space....
And the moral of the story is, dont do drugs! eh hem....
Nah, after the aliens came for the first time they introduced us to evolution, and now they are keeping tabs on us, watching us if you will, perhaps planning for the next evolution.

But none of this is really helping Mr.T!!!! yes i know. but "beer" with me people!

I think we are here to be scientifically developped in different ways, i mean we were put here, we have evolved and so on and we are being watched by either a God or Higher intelligence, we are either a game or an experiment.

just like ants, we are born, we multiply and we die. Some of us have good times, some have bad times, (actually alot have bad) apparently we come back after we die as someone else. so we are kept here for something.

blah blah blah, i cant write anymore useless nonsense now. but i hope you can get something from this?

There must be a better reason! must be! and by the power of grey skull, i am.....going to go now.

T out! 10-4, can ya dig it.....solid, word, theirs a bear in the air, c'mon!

Great post weird-gal...

I wonder if we are the only species on earth that questions thier own exsistance?

all other species seem occupied just trying to stay alive...
Maybe thats all we are doing... ( just more creative at it ) with jobs, bills, kids, etc

Well we are the only beings that kill indiscriminately that we know. The conventional theory is that only we humans contemplate our existence. Somehow though I wonder, with the size of the brain dolphins and whales have who knows what they think and can think? I mean conventional science would have us believe all beings except humans simply follow instinct with no thought. I wonder. But I do think our basic purpose is to procreate on one level like all beings. On a meta-physical level, I am sure each spirit or soul may have a reason why it chooses to be born and what it will experience. But of course I have no proof of that. Its just a faith kind of thing.

Hmm...
I can see "purpose" in terms of ecosystems, but I'm not sure where humans come in.

Like, we have millions and millions of bacteria in our guts that serve the purpose of helping us digest our food. Our other floral bacteria use up the resources that pathenogenic bacteria would use and make us sick if they weren't there.

On earth, every living organism has a function in the ecosystem. A function isn't a purpose, though. But it's very similar.

But humans are different...so I dunno...

i think our purpose is to destroy, because otherwise we would have the ability to be satisfied and the ability to be happy, but few humans are contented with what they have, it is our natural desire to want more,
and the logical conclusion is the destrucition of the human race,
that is our ultimate purpose

on a more happy note, i go with what Aristotle said and the purpose is to be happy and to creat that happiness we need freinds

If you'd asked me that a year ago I would have said 'In order for the species to procreate and survive' - not anymore though, why? Because for that survival 'trigger' to exist then I would argue that continued existence must be a possibility if not a probability. The more inconsequential I realise we are in the grand scheme of things then the more I realise we could be consigned to dust in a second. The Universe is too vast to comprehend - the means of our demise are so numerous that to predict humans will still be around a million years from now would be folly. So, where does that leave me? It leaves me thinking that we are here to enjoy what we have, delight in hedonism and ask no questions....for the only questions which remain are those which cannot be answered.

I dont know why must think Life's purpose must be so single-minded in nature as though there can be only one purpose when its quite possibly a multitude of inter-connecting purposes.

I do believe I know why when we consider Life's purpose, we insert human purpose to the exclusion of all other life and that is because to include all other life in Life's purpose is to concede a greater sentience and complexity of being to Life itself then we ourselves possess.
