OK, I'm actually going to post a few things here. As most of you know I was raised in the San Francisco area on an Island that had the second largest Navy Base on the west coast (second to San Diego) before Clinton closed it in 1997.

Alameda NAS is now closed but still has several decommisioned Navy Ships in dry dock. One of them is a Museum which is the USS Hornet. It is said the the USS Hornet is haunted. the USS hornet was used to pick up both the Orriginal Astronauts of Apollo 11 and 12. So, because we always talk about the first landing on the moon as being fake or having seen Alien crafts, I felt it was of interest in showing you the ship. You can see the city of San Francisco across the bay behind the ship..

Tonight, I was bored and decided to go take some photos and I used my night vision camcorder to video tape the ship. I walked up to the side of it, and I swear the damn thing made all kinds of strange noises like someone was stomping around or running or banging something against the side, yet I dont know if anyone was even on board (unless they were working on it).

here is the video I took tonight.

right click and save if it doesnt play or stream.

http://www.hobbyfilms.net/ala/usshorn.wmv

Here is some photos of the ship

Now, completly unrelated to the Hornet, This hanger near the Ship (I believe) is the old Manex Film Studio. Owned by Paramount but I believe Lucas owned part of it as well. Now, For my friends in Australia who argue with me that Matrix was filmed entirely in Australia, They are dead wrong. in the third film you can see the new Cypress Freeway during the chase scene. I read that the special effects where they do the stop motion and pan the object (actor) in mid air, was actually invented in this or one of its neighboring hangers on the naval station.

Lucas, filmed alot of movies on or around Alameda and Oakland. Mrs Doubtfire and Flubber I believe were also filmed in that hanger.

Not far from the ship and hanger is the Posey Tube. It looks alot like New Yorks Holland Tunnle. It's actually longer but is almost identical on the inside. It's nearly 2 miles long.

Here is the video I shot while leaving Alameda and entering Oaklands China Town.

This tunnle was used in one of Goerge Lucas first film called THX 1138 (which wikipedia says is his old San Francisco Phone number while he lived there in the 1960s). THX are the initials relating to the numbers on the phone pad. (843 1138??)

If you ever seen the film THX 1138, You will see the motorcycle cops chasing Robert Duvall in the Posey Tube that exited the underground world they lived in.

Wikipedia source. Interesting facts are that Lucas used these numbers over and over in other films like Raiders of the Lost ark and Star Wars

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/THX_1138

here is the video I shot after leaving the base and heading back home.

its 10 megs

Oh, if you look at the end of the hornet film, there is a ship called "Cape Fear" smile.gif classic film. I wonder what it was doing there. Didnt look like a naval ship but I know Norfolk VA has a large base as well.

Im not sure the Hornet was a Carrier, I guess its a small one. It does have a flight deck.

The USS Enterprize was stationed there as well. It's where the Star Trek ship was named after.

Watch Star Trek 4, Chekhov asks where the USS Enterprize is while visiting modern San Francisco, he is told it is in Alameda, Across the Bay. So the idiot swims across the bay. You see him come ashore at "Rock Wall" where I used to fish with my friends. You could see the Big E on the aircraft carrier behind him. I used to be able to see that from my 8th grade science classroom.

I guess the Enterprize is stationed in San Diego now, or Norfolk. Not sure where its home base is now. sad.gif

I checked it on Winipedia, It says there are 8 Hornets in the US fleet over the last 200+ years. The one in 1942 sank. this was named something else (without looking it up) so I dont know why it would be haunted, But I dont think it served in WWII. maybe Vietnam or Korea??
