One ambitious project that was ever conceived to Explore Antarctica was a Behemoth, the Antarctic Snow Cruiser. Sadly it was left behind and probably buried under tons of ice and snow, never to be seen again. It should be in a Museum.

Your right GTO it should be in a museum you never know maybe one day someone will try and find it......

like they did that flight of B-17s and P-38s that ran out of fuel over greenland during WW2......

The Bethemoth, Nice name, sounds like a badass if it was a tank.

That would be nice, I thought the same thing. Chances are it's been crushed by the weight of the ice and snow. It's probably been FUBARed.(f**ked Up Beyond Recognition)

Interesting letter to people who bought Commemorative Navy Covers for $1, like the one bellow. They were carried with the Snow Cruiser to Antarctica.

Note what the Letter says about the Nazi's and Japanese. In the circled and underlined areas.

This was a noble idea but without any actual engineering and testing was doomed at day one.

As I remember they did the testing only in some beach in USA...and as a result when they finally arrived in antarctic they only were able to move some 10-15 meters..and thats all.
the crew lived for a year in a machine and then abandoned it..

Goodyear made the mistake of making Smooth tires. The tires should have had a Paddle tread like dune buggies use in deep sand. The engines were very underpowered also. Sad because I would have liked to have seen film of it actually traversing crevasses.

There was a story or rumor going around that the Russians recovered the Beast and brought it back with them. Too bad there is no actual proof of that.

There is a video of it being tested in the links I posted above. It was a joke of a test. Most testing was done on the 1,500 mile drive to the ship. from Chicago to Boston.
