Arecibo Radio Telescope May Lose Funding

Ithaca NY (SPX) Nov 10, 2006

Last Friday, the National Science Foundation (NSF) announced an internal review committee's recommendation to raise $30 million for future astronomy projects and facilities by slashing its contributions to current projects and facilities. Cornell's Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico was one of the hardest hit: the report suggested that, unless they can find outside funding, the observatory should close sometime after 2011.
If enacted, the plan will cut funding for Arecibo by up to $2.5 million per year . Cornell's official statement on the matter is that the University "will not take any actions which would lead to closing Arecibo," according to Prof. Martha Haynes, astronomy.

The report was given by a committee of astronomers knownf as the Senior Review panel, who were appointed by the NSF over two years ago to reallocate funding within the NSF's Division of Astronomical Sciences based on the projects they felt were the most beneficial to the scientific community. They recommended cutting funding to Arecibo and a number of other national observatories by 20 to 25 percent over the next four years and possibly closing Arecibo. Cornell astronomers stress, however, that the committee merely gave suggestions on how to redistribute funding.

This really is a bad news to me hope they find the funds to keep operating the observatory.sad.gif  :alien:

yes it does, but space agencies always seem to have a hard time funding anyhting they do it seems.
but i think a hubble telescope is a little more useful than a radio telescope in terms of astronomy, but in terms of citti (sp) institute search for et, then a radio telescope seems to be the way to go.

Is is a 60's construction why not remodelate.
I remember a project of a radiotelescope in space with some kind of antennas array probably they are considering the project.

Cuts threaten world's largest telescope

It won’t be the largest soon!…lol
An even bigger Radio Telescope is being developed now… (500 meters)

But the really Biiiig one is the Square Kilometre Array...!!! ~rore

:smokin: :smokin: :smokin: :smokin: :smokin:
It won't matter how big this new Telescope is, or any other, if they don't use it correctly or report exactly what they find then we will never know for certain what they have found. It is all about subterfuge and dis-information, care of the security agencies and their hidden agendas.

:smokin: :smokin: :smokin: :smokin: :smokin: rorechof, did you miss the point that I was aiming for in my original posting? The point is that the "Powers that Be" already know a whole lot more than they are letting on to. They are just not reporting to us, the public, or anyone else just what they have found out. If they have an array that covers over one square kilometer that would take an immense amount of power to run, yes? How do we know, or are ever likely to know, that CSETIhave switched the array on? They could tell us that they have and it is costing so many Millions of Dollars per year to run. If they just used the array as a front then all this money, the supposed cost, could be diverted to other agendas (Black Ops ). The U.S. is already diverting funding from various sources into "Black Ops" and the public are not the slightest bit aware of it. The truth? The U.S. Security Agencies wouldn't know the truth if it jumped up and bit them on the arse!

Very old news, i posted last year similar report:
http://www.alien-ufos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16326

They are using the radiotelescope correctly and not matter they will found they are not going to tell us;and the same with the new radiotelescope. All technology use in this world works fine no matter the use is obvious that human beings are hiding the truth.
