This thread is to debate teaching evolution or creationism.

Personally, I don't think creationism should be in schools. The THEORY of evolution should be taught in shools, however the teachers should be reminded to teach the kids that although the theory may not be true, by studying the natural world around us, it is the best theory.

By the way, all of those who think creationism should be taught in schools, here are some good analogies:

Instead of Neurology, why not Phrenology?
Instead of Astronomy, why not Astrology?
Instead of Chemistry, why not Alchemy?

How far will we push the limits people?

NOTE: Poll is in the other thread.

Sorry about that. I was going to attach one, but accidentally posted the normal thing. I'll go set up the poll.

Evolution is both a theory and a fact. There is absolutely no debate of the validity of evolution among scientists. I really wish people would stop emphasizing that it's "only a theory" when they're ignorant of what a theory is in a scientific context.

They're both taught in school to some degree.
Creationism is taught in RE.
While Evolutions in science.

You have an option to carry on learning about RE (Religious Education) at a certain age, Glad i choose not too, I find it stupid to teach both at the same time, As evolution and Creationism both deny the other, it makes your head messed up trying to think for yourself, and dictating teachers, Who its best to learn to argue back with, Say they're right others are wrong.

Evolution is a part of your education and your expected to know it, Atleast the basics, They also teach about the evolution of viruses by Natural Selection (Growing immuity, to antibiotics and treatments, Like MRSA)
On wednesday, I have a Physics, Chemestry and Biology exam. (A straight 3 Hours 3 mins, no breaks, I think im going to cry lol)
Without a doubt, The MRSA will come up under Chemestry and Evolution on Biology. >.<

Astrology can be taken in collage, Its pointless teaching it to a child, Believe me, My dad tried to teach me Hypnosis (The only subject he actully has a degree in) and failed miserabley at "Putting me Under", Childs minds are too strong lol.
Astromony Becomes and extra curriclular subject in Years 10 and 11 (The Final 2 years before collage), So you still gain qualification for it, however, its in your own time, and you dont have to if you dont want.

I think it comes down to "science belongs in the science class." Everything else doesn't. Evolution is science, creationism most certainly is not.

Hehe, My teach would argue with you there Kiku, What part of science is throwing flour on a naked flame and scorching the roof (Reduction, I think, This flour had high oxygen content), and Puting Potatsium (Quite alot too lol), And burn it at the side of Copper Oxide (Displacement reation, VERY violent, Blew a hole in the crucible)

Hehe, They teach science in fun ways.
And memorable ones.

Interesting Kiku. I would like to know where you found there was proof of evolution?

Don't take that the wrong way, I support evolution 100% but I didn't hear proof of it? I would like to know.

Alien, We see proof of evolution in like.

A certain type of moth, 100 years ago, had light wings, But the polution turning the trees dark made them easy for birds to get.
10 years later, The light winged ones diserpired, They had started having darked winged babys, So they rose, the Mutation/Evolution, Had + Effects for their survival.

And constantly, Evolving Viruses i guess (I dont mean just changing, I mean completly new split of, Immune to known treatments.)

And DNA tracking i think...

Ah... thank you for telling me that Xeno. But I guess christian exremists will never understand it. I can hear their argument now: "I want proof of human evolution!"

I suppose I came to the conclusion after realizing that Darwinian evolution is the only possible explanation that fits in place with all the natural sciences.

If you're every in the mood, you can take some time everyday to read Talk Origin's evidence of evolution page. It reads like a textbook, but the facts are there. Of course I'm not expecting you or anyone ignorant of evolution is going to actually read it, so it's up to you since you asked for "proof."

However, I recommend you read Richard Dawkins' highly-regarded and popular book "The Selfish Gene." It makes so much sense that it's frightening, and it's a science book that can be read and understood by anyone.

You didn't "hear proof of it" because you never looked. Anyone can be convinced of Darwinian evolution if they took the time to read and research the subject. The facts aren't locked up in a Vatican vault.

Second, I'm disturbed that you "support evolution 100%" but are completely ignorant and willingly avoidant of the subject.

Listen, don't make me out as an "ignorant" person. I just thought it would be all over the news or something. Also, I skimmed through the evidence of evolution page, very informative. I know all about evolution and what it says, sorry if you think I didn't do enough research.

Well you are ignorant if you're saying you don't know of any "proof" of evolution. Ignorance isn't a bad thing, I'm ignorant of countless subjects. With the more statements you make on the subject of evolution, you're only confirming my suspicion that you are ignorant of it. I mean, you would think evolution would be on the news?... That's like expecting the news to report that the Earth revolves around the Sun.

It seems to me like you've fallen in with a crowd that denies evolution (religious fundamentalists) and live in their own world where it's unproven.

both sides need to be showen, if we as a people are going to move on and grow we have to see both sides of the story, its when it taught to the student, high school level in when they are about 3 year. thats when they start you know taking part in the commuity and going to explore church and god and so on and so fourth. i dont think we should take any thing away form the child, both should be taught to them, its there right, its there right to pick which one they belive.:smokin: right or wrong it not what we should be asking here, one could say but there to young! so what they going to college and there are most likely learn it here any way. both sides where taught to me.

Kiku....if it fits an idea its a theory....thats not proof...you're right there is no debate among believers of evolution about its validity...only the finer details...Darwin was on the right track.

There is very elaborate evidence and proof of Darwinian evolution, Castle, which makes it both a theory and a fact. Darwin was more than "on the right track," he was right and he's long been proven right.

jessie.. do you believe then that religious thought should be taught in public school? if so, whose religion.

If you want creationism to be taught..whose creationism? The rather bland creation story of Judaism/Christianity/Islam? Or the epic story of some Australian aboriginals? The Hopi creation story? The romantic creation myth of Japanese shinto?
