If indeed we are to be judged based on "ego" amongst other things why should we feel the need to detatch ourselves from such a thing? That would mean that our path is already written and if so we would'nt have to "unattach" ourselves from anything, We are already doomed.... Oh the horror..

basically im not saying to lose ur identity or uniqueness but to keep ur ego in moderation. if u care too much about money or success etc u might b attached to many illusions and not c the truth
