What is the most eye-opening, thought-provoking, mind-expanding movie you have seen to date, and why? What did you learn? How did it change you?

[popcorn] Mine would be a combination of many, so I guess it was wrong to ask of just one.
Donnie Darko, Pi, Kids, the Matrix, LOTR, the Lion King, Requiem for a Dream, Alice in Wonderland, Close encounters, Vanilla Sky, a Skanner Darkly, Romeo & Juliet... damn, just realized the list goes on and on. Basically, these films stunned and perplexed, caused major pondering sessions, and forced me to adapt new possibilities and thinking patterns. They made me realize my ego, forced me to lose it, and urged me to become aware and cautious as well as loving (regardless), and sacrifice when the time comes. |

saving private ryan. i was 16 when i saw this and it really opened my eyes up to the effects of war. theres also the day the world stood still, i think this film was made by the us government in a test to see how people re-acted to such a possible event, not that im a big fan though.

mhm thats a great movie too.. but i'm a bit odd I like kids movies too.. all the monty python ones never fail to brighten a day! mind opening in a different way.. open to the wit and humor of everyday life .. one only has to look and you find comedy in the saddest of things.. it's about displaying it appropriately...oh ok.. no.. its about laughter the worlds cheapest and best medicine.. mhm... open your mind to python.. lord only knows what happens next !!

I like kids movie too, the ones with messages that refresh the soul and motivate the Good Fight fighters. And also just wonderful ones like Fox & the Hound, Unico, Lion King, Little Mermaid, Bambi, Toy Story, Ice Age, Happy feet (!) etc.

What I personally considar mind opening is a film that upon its ending, teaches you something you've never pondered, evokes strong emotion, expands your thoughts and provokes you to learn more. But, it can also be a film that leaves you with an all-around clean, happy, hopeful and thankful feeling.

Phenomena (Creepers), Saving Pvt Ryan, Close Encounters, Donnie Darko... There are alot but I can't really think of them. Hollywood has made so many crappy films in the past 10 years that I basically have forgotten all the decent things that were made. Some of the older TV shows were really well done. There was a film called "Satans Triangle" on TV. It was one of the scariest TV films and it made me think about the unknown. Also, The Old TV Show "The Bette and Barny Hill Story". that was very well done . Television used to be enjoyable. I still like watching old Columbo and Night Gallery episodes. another great Made for TV film had Karen Black in it (. She buys a voodoo doll and the thing terrorizes her all night. The Karen black film was called "trilogy of terror"
