Sometimes when I try and post.. it asks me to save in php format on my harddrive (I get that save to drive or open with software popup). Then if I hit reply again I get a "Message to long" script, or nothing happens at all. Lately I been trying to log into Alien Ufo, and it says no site exist with a dead url page.

This site used to be enjoyable to post on. Im almost starting to think someone is fucking with me. Not saying AU but it only happens on this site and no where else. Is this site being hacked or are you guys having server problems? Who is your server or do you run apache on your own computer?

Not sure exactly what you are meaning trog, but the site is having a full Google update in the last day or so and the site Admins didn't realise it would cause such problems while it's being done... Sorry about that, but stuff happens.... Hopefully all will be back to normal soon and if anyone finds anything not working just post here about it...

As for hackers trog... I wouldn't be too concerned about that because trust me, like with many sites, there's some pretty good stuff set in place here to combat if anyone tried to do such a thing... So rest assured, that this latest problem is just a simple boring glitch... Otherwise, if precautions weren't placed by many site owners the hacking rate would be horrendous all over the internet... Have a look and see how many hundreds try to get into your computer every time you log in, but software in place prevents them from doing so. Not trying to make anyone paranoid or anything...

Yup... like already posted, the forum had/has gone a full Google update which caused a lot of unexpected problems in many areas in the forum. And it all had to eventually be fixed and usually best to take a site offline to do these things. I expect while they were at it they also updated the site... that last part I don't know for sure, but it did take rather a long time eh... Arh... brought out the lurkers though...

I could have sworn I asked this. unless you guys deleted my post. Your site for the second time this month has been down for over a day. Are you guys upgrading or is it server problems?

I have been having trouble connecting with your website off and on for a couple of weeks now.

My attempts today have been partly successful. I was able to connect a few hours ago but after a few minutes I was unable to navigate while connected to your site.

I have been trying to reconnect every 15 minutes for the past several hours and was just now (9PM EST) able to get through.

Something else you should know: Every time I leave the Internet I unplug my phone connection from my laptop and proceed to use a Spyware program to remove all cookies and adware that have attached themselves to my computer. Your site is the only site I regularly attract 2 Adware programs entitled CAIN&ABEL25b44 which attaches itself to my REG DATA and imbeds itself at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.

Are you aware of this problem? Is this something you or I can prevent? Do you know the source of this ADWARE and what I can do to avoid it in the future?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

SC Russ,

I can 100%! ensure you that it is not Alien-Ufos which is installing any types of spyware or adware. This is simply not possible as you would need to install some software from our site which we do not have any on the site and I just reconfirmed that right now. (Site note: the php downloads mentioned above occur when the server is too busy to respond and cannot render the page correctly - definitly not spyware/adware). I believe you have something with
its hooks in your Internet Expolorer browser.

That being said what I recoomend is:

I recommend that you use FireFox as your browser which an opensource web browser. (I also recommend that anyone else who uses this site uses FireFox as it is a safer, more feature rich and imho a better all around browser), this is what I use personally as well I know serveral of our fine moderators use. This should sort out your issue ... the way this can occur is that you have some form of spyware/adware/bad stuff in your Internet Explorer and when you use your browser the took gets it hooks in further. (eg when you come to this site)

To get FireFox I have added a link to where you can get firefox to the homepage at the top of the page. Click the "Get FireFox with Google Toolbar" button at the top.

I hope that helps you.

Cheers,
mrRonX

Dear mrRonX,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions.

My next problem is trying to find the "Get FireFox with Toolbar" button you mentioned. It would be easier for me to locate it if you could tell me what buttons are next to, above or below the button you describe.

I know when you point it out to me I'll feel like an idiot for not seeing what must obviously be right in front of me!

Thanks again for your help.
Russ

Russ,

On the homepage of this site http://alien-ufos.com you will see the text "Best viewed with" in the grey bar below the main menu where Home/Forum/etc is and there is an Image on the right which says "Get FireFox With Google Toolbar". Click this and follow the step to download and install. That should fix you up. I also strongly recommend everyone else who uses the site do the same thing.

Cheers,
MrRonX.

Dear mrRonX,

Thanks for the link. I found the button and downloaded the FireFox browser. Unfortunately I am stick picking up 2 ADWARES from CAIN&ABEL25b44 whenever I return from this website.

I used the SPYWARE KILLER to remove them and then used DISK CLEANUP, rebooted and then reconnected to AU only to see I've contracted the same adware. I repeated the above steps and once again contracted this ADWARE. I only get this if/when I connect to this website.

The address this adware is going to on my computer is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:System\ControlSet001\Services\Kmixer\Enum[0=SW1 etc. (About 20 letters and numerals follow).

Any other ideas what this is and how I can prevent it from reoccuring? Are you or anyone you know, who comes to AU using FireFox, checking to see if they're picking it up too?

Preventing this adware isn't really going to save me any time because I will continue to use the Spyware Killer after every Internet visit. I just don't want this adware to be tracking my travels and reporting that info to some nefarious agency for some dubious reason. Could Big Brother be watching us without our knowledge or consent?

It would set my mind at ease if I knew who was behind this adware. Is there any way someone could find this out? Russ

Hey Russ,

Are you using FireFox when you come back to the site or are you still using Internet Explorer? Again I can guarantee you that the adware is definitely not coming from the alien-ufos website.

Could you test by visiting some other sites example http://cnn.com and see if the same issue comes up. I am sure it will. The only way you can ensure that you get rid of the adware/spyware is to reinstall Windows and start fresh. Ensure to backup before you do.

Best of luck and sorry I can give you a better answer.

Cheers,
MrRonX

Yeah, I figured maybe someone was just hammering the site to slow it down. it's been happening to a few other sites as well. Dingo.. what do you mean you're "googling" the site? and how does that slow it down? You mean like a web spider thing?
