Yesterday, one of our local news stations had a segment of their show dedicated to callers who wanted to ask a retired military general any questions they had. A mother of a serviceman currently serving in Iraq asked why the military was denying the soldiers the freedom to post messages on My Space and similar venues? The general stated it was for security reasons and then proceeded on to another caller.

The mother called back and tried to reason with the general. She stated that My Space uses tight security on its website and that the insurgents already know where most of our soldiers are; hunkered down in their heavily fortified positions. Besides this, our combat soldiers are smart enough to know not to post any logistical information that the enemy could use against them.

So, what do you think the real reason is for the Government's prohibition on postings from our soldiers serving in the war zones?

SCR posts: So, what do you think the real reason is

Exactly what the General said it was: Security Reasons.

Geraldo Rivera is an extremely qualified, seasoned journalist who made a Security Slip during his time in Iraq and was subsequently dismissed as a part of the journalistic team invited by the US Govt. to report the war's progress to the American People and the World.

To think that a young, excited Soldier is incapable of committing the same mistake is foolish. ~rore
