We've had a rash of child deaths here lately...where I live...everything from accidental deaths to murder..kids dying in freak accidents...from car wrecks...from parental stupidity or cruelty...from intentional homicide...

A 6 year old's body is found in his grandfather's garage...

A mother burns and beats her two year old to death...

A four teen year old dies in a car wreck...

A father smashes the skull of his 1 year old son...

Foster parents starve and beat to death a 10 year old girl in their care..

A father shakes to death his six-week old daughter...

A couple beat to death their two year daughter...

11 year old boy shot and killed in his home...

And more accounts of infants left in sweltering cars...abandoned on streets...beat to death....thrown from bridges...drowning...etc...the list goes on and these are but recent local reports...one begins to wonder if there is not some unidentified cause seething just below the surface.

Here's some more. Last month 2 parents let their kids starve to death as they video games. A child dies so the mother puts the body in a garbage bag and leave it under the sink.

Stupid ass parents.

...just when you thought the thread was creepy enough...

*insert x-files theme*

most people have an overwhelming urge to protect their children no matter what. its built in. propagate the species... you know. this for me ranks on down there with the lowest of low, on par with pedophiles. ok accidents happen, but only a couple of those incidents, if that, sound like accidents.

the kid left in the car thing happens in my neck of the woods quite a bit. it staggers the rational mind. one can only say: WTF!!!???

i'd say the type of neglect or brutality it requires to permit any of this to happen is about as sinister as it gets. and shudder to think of what could lurk darker still.

It does leave one befuddled to be sure. We're also having quite a few incidents of neglect which are endangering children's lives. For instance, a mother did not notice that her 5 year old was missing...until 2 hours later. We found him two streets away from his home. Because the mother reported the child missing, we couldnt charge her with wanton endangerment. However, we were fortunate to find the child and find him unharmed. And any reasonable person would think this person guilty of neglecting her child and exposing him to harm. Point is..its just one of many such recent incidents that would have likely resulted in the child's death had we not intervened.
