ok this just happened this morning.
I'm staying at my dads house for a couple of days..any way he goes to work at 2:00am.I'ts been blazing hot here in the desert until last night.when i got home last night it, was chilly,my dad came to kitchen i was here at the computer,i said whats wrong you cant sleep?he said im cold ,so i said shut the cooler off,its a swamp cooler with a knob that you have to turn with some force,ok so he turns it off.i go to bed.i woke up at 5:30 am i go to bathroom and noticed my dad left his light on, i made a mental note because he's never done that before.also i noticed that the swamp cooler was still off.so i got a drink took my daily medicine,(for thyroid)smoked a cigg laid on couch,i was wide awake not dreaming this or sleep walking,so im tired and wrapped the blanket aroundme, then i hear what i think is the swamp cooler come on.I thought no way thats impossible, yet i could hear the hum of it, any way i fell asleep, just woke up at 10:45,i go to the bathroom and clearly i could see the swamp cooler was on and set to low cool, woooa i thought then i noticed my dads light was turned off!!!ok weird, how in the heck did that happen????:headscrat i know ben would say it's a sllep thing but i was not sleeping at all when this happened i'm 100% sure i was awake, especially when i herd the cooler come on.

Well your swamp cooler coming back on could have been caused by the pressure in the pipes forcing it to turn(i've heard lots of stories of air conditions and things turning on due to this) and the light off maybe being it burnt out? Or did you check to see if it was? If it wasn't then maybe he came home like if he forgot something and turned the light off.

ya, my first thought was he's here he came home early, but he didnt.he drives a 18 wheeler, the light is not burned out i checked, when he came home i told him the story, he said the swamp cooler did that before, but he had no explanation for the light,he remembered leaving it on..weird,also i have been sitting here alone and smell like a match and rotten smell, it lasted a while the went away,to me thats unusual.

Well there are a few possibilies in my mind..

1) paranormal activity has been associated with strange odours and smells

OR

2) the match smell could be an electrical wiring issue, and thats what you smelled. Maybe get an electrician to have a look if the problem continues, and may make it easier to clarify what really happened.

I agree with LISELLE.
Get your electrical system checked over.
Tell an electrician about what happened. He/she would know what to check for.
