some months back, I was on an irc chat for help regarding 3D Studio Max. I don't know what started the argument but it was totally off the subject of Max between 2 people. I didn't realize one of them arguing was a room OP. so I told them to shut up and take it to private chat. So I was booted out. I wanted to say I was sorry since someone was going to give me a tutorial link, and was looking it up at the time and I was booted out before they could tell it the links addy. I tried to send a message but couldn't do so. So I tried to use another ip, but it knew who I was (even with a second account name).

So IPs have nothing to do with a ban filter??. My question is, what is the address called that you see next to your IP addy when logging onto a chat site like IRC? this seems to be a set of letters and numbers that is specific to your gateway or ISP server (Like AT&T or Comcast). there seems to be no way of changing that. Just curios what it is called and if that's how they know who you are. Please, someone reply who knows this.
