Saw something today that I've never seen before on AU: popups and banners. When did that happen? And why did it have to be the 'You are the 999,999th visitor: Congratulations you WON!' tripe?

Please tell me this is some kind of error.

I realize that bandwidth costs money, but I find pop-unders really annoying. And moving are tolerable, but nonmoving banners would be much better.

Just my opinion here.

This is in error - kinda - the provider who supplies our ads has placed this instead of the expired ringtone offer. I will get this updated ASAP. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Popups have been removed from the forum, but banners need to stay (Seeing as we got like 2 people to get the ringtones in 2 years or w/e)

Boy...RonX and BostonDan in the same thread......whooohooo.

Not necessarily on topic but at this point, I would like to suggest to you both that after 5 years (more than..?) of the same look, a facelift is in order. Maybe a poll to vote on a new theme or something. Maybe a poll on whether a facelift is in order or not. I could ramble as to why I think it would be a good idea, but I'm sure you boys can figure out reasons on your own.

Just a suggestion...

Hottie ones eh shotz... yeah... but no hunks for the girls so far... Seems that's the latest go in internet advertising I've noticed on quite a few sites... intimate dates and ladies in scant clothes... winning an anonymous prize coz you have been specially selected or you have some secret message waiting for you... and while you're at it you can get a new husky voiced frog call ringtone for your mobile (I think Americans call it cell) phone..

Some of them flash so darn fast and so often that even if you wanted to click on one you'd miss the button I reckon... hard to see those ones... glad I'm not epileptic coz that could be hard then...

Too bad if you were wanting to scan ads for books and good movies etc... though the ad for the koi fish screensaver looks cute... Owhhh... I must be turning into a real bigtime prude or something... lol...

Bummer... I've gone from this :baby: to that :baghead:

As far as the hottie banners go, I find them offensive. Because my grandkids come to this site and my 8 yr old grand daughter asked me why that girl was trying to take her bottoms off. Couldn't something less in your face do better? I personally could care less what banner is there , but our kids and etc., is why we have to care.

mrRonX and bostondan:
Thanks for the replies. It means a lot to me. I don't mind the banners so much. Like I said: I understand. Bandwidth costs money, and I'm truly glad this site is here.

Thanks, though for getting rid of the popunders.
Kirin.

Cricket- Get adblock and it will get rid of the ads (or just block them from the hosts file)

I know there's a free extension to firefox called adblock. It works well. I'm not going to block the banners because they don't bother me as much as popups. Besides, maybe I'll see something I like ...

Hey, bostondan and mrRonX: you should tell the ad provider to put on some ads for, I don't know, content related to this site: UFO videos or something. They might generate more revenue from this site if they cater to the population.

Just a thought.

The problem is there really isnt anything related to ufos.
This site is destined to never make any real cash, but thats cool also. as long as it doesnt put a drain in my pocket thats to big, the site will never go anywhere.

Is BostonDan one of the guys who took over after Xander left? I've never seen him before.

And I'd support a revamp of this place, along with more content for the front page. I haven't even touched the front page since I came here in 2004.

I don't want to take away your bread and butter, but one of your ads had forced a blockup on me, installed several cookies and kept opening a browser page.

Dingo, If you could talk to the Admin and let them know they should seriouslly screen their clientele

that was painful to watch on my computer.

It made it impossible for me to post. It just kept popping up and does that little trick where it ask if you want to close the browser but it's actually a hotlink on the photo.

It wouldn't stop. I had to unplug my ethernet and shut down.

I haven't gotten any ads on the forums. I went to the front page yesterday, and I got a couple pop-ups.
