Guns are evil. Let's make it illegal to own them. Never mind that this guy was on Prozac, a drug that's been shown repeatedly to increase suicidal tendencies.

When are we going to realize that these medicines are making everything worse? How soon until people start crying for a repeal of the Second Amendment?

see thats what im afraid of people are gonna demand that guns be made illegal in america because of these pyschos but that just like treat the symptom and not the source. Also doesn't that sound alot like problem-reaction-solution?

Anyways i don't trust the government enough to have them take guns from me.

Canada, Norway and Finland is the 3 countries that has the highest gun-to-people ratio. Yet in Finland there has only been a gun massacre twice, Norway zero. Don't know about Canada, but i don't think it is very high. The problem is not the guns.

The problem is not the guns.

You're right..the problem here is perception. Spree killing accounts for very little of the total homicides yearly...but they make headlines...such that the public is lulled into thinking that they perceive an ever increasing phenomena. Spree killings are motivated by psychological factors...some acute but most chronic. The killers are often sufferers of post traumatic stress syndrome who are experiencing a delayed reaction to past abuse. But then there are a small number who are just friggin' nuts. But again, it accounts for a small number of homicides.

As for the gun issue, like it or not, guns increase the risk of a crime turning deadly. "The present study, based on a sample of eighteen countries, confirms the result of previous work based on the 14 countries surveyed during the first International Crime Survey. Substantial correlations were found between gun ownership and gun-related as well as total homicide and suicide rates. Widespread gun ownership has not been found to reduce the likelihood of fatal events committed with other means. Thus, people do not turn to knives and other potententially lethal weapons less often when more guns are available, but more guns usually means more victims of homicide and suicide." The International Crime Victim Survey. Acknowledging this rather then denying it, will help us create more practical gun-control laws.
