I've been visiting this forum for a year or so now and i really enjoy reading the posts and have a lot of respect for those of you that take the time to really think about this and explore the unknown and help other explorers in need, so i suppose i'll have to ask for help on this one.
My girlfriend has been having nightmares, i'm not sure if they're continuing but i'd like to know if any of you have some tips or ideas as to how to avoid or extinguish these nightmares. The nightmares seem to consist of either her mother or I or both being involved in a horrific, horror-movie like setting and the end seems to involve either her mother or I, or both being killed, she's said there's worse but none that she wants to discuss with me because it hurts her to think of the nightmares. I've told her that i think it's a sort of deep-rooted fear of losing the two people she values most in her life and that she may just need to accept and live with the fear but i don't think that covers it all... i really need help guys i love her and don't want her to wake up having to face such nightmares. thanks, guys |

Welcome to the forum Seaneez.
Well, to overcome ones fears, one must face them. I have always believed this applies to nightmares as well. She must understand that what she is experiencing is on a harmless stage of mental images and nothing can harm her. No fire can burn her, no cold can freeze her, no killer can harm her. She is an invincible participant. The hardest part, is to make yourself realize you are dreaming. Once she can get herself to do that, the rest is easy. -------------------- QUEST FOR THE REAL TRUTH |

Welcome Seaneez, I was brought up to believe dreams (and nightmares), are our subconscious bringing order to our everyday thoughts and insecurities, problems can arise when we begin to believe those dreams are real events that will happen in the future, or when we try to interpret them into meaning something.

What i do, is two things, I always have some soft pleasant music in the background when I sleep, that helps to prevent them for some reason.
But when I do get them, which is pretty often, I try to acknowledge them as a dream. I mean, if I wake in fright at 2:00am, instead of being too scared to go back to sleep and trying to stay awake. I tell myself it was only a dream, i lie down to sleep and activly try to return to the dream, with an awareness of it as a dream, with the intent on changing the content and outcome. Usually this is enough to avoid it. But if I do return to it, it is often with a retained awareness that I am dreaming, which for me tends to take the edge off it. Hope this helps Cheers |

I too had a creepy nightmare. It was about these strange shapes with a finger on them. Sounds kinda funny but, I could not only see the objects but I could feel them in my ear. This nightmare made me really scared. It was hard for me to fall asleep again. I was only a child when I had this experience.
