We both know that there is much that goes on behind closed government doors.
But they did post this on the news. They are not hiding it.

I did not want to upset you with my comment, but the tinfoil thing goes back decades. I sure would like to know who started that BS.
I have a strange story about that...but maybe another time.biggrin.gif

Ya, I can't see tinfoil doing anything. But I thought it helped to get across that I was looking for cheesy solutions to protect me from falling government secrets.

I really do hope they do not try blowing it up with a missile, as the debris from the venture will add to the thousands of hazardous particles already in orbit (earth's new ring system), It would make more sense to send and attach a robotic booster rocket to these defunct space craft and steer them off to the sun (or are these gov agencies sun worshippers with tin foil hats?) sad.gif

More than two thirds of the earth's surface is ocean. And a significant proportion of the land does not have any human habitations on it. Odds are it won't hit anybody.

This thing is a small as a bus.
If they blew it up with a missile right now, it would mostly spread out into space, and the pieces that are pulled in will most likely burn up on re-entering.
And it will probably end up in the Oceans anyway.

The problem with this scenario is the Kessler Syndrome or domino effect caused by the "orbital debris".......

I understand what you mean Alien Stardust; but blasting it with a very powerful missile, or even a weak one that causes its orbit to break outwards (Rather than shattering it) should avoid that.

Just because it is likely to land in our oceans does not mean we will regret it if hits even one person. It is dangerous because at the very worst it could hit a city. We are lucky that populated areas right now are allot smaller than the areas with no one around for miles. But the satellite could find it's lucky mark and we would all regret it.

We need to resolve this before on of those falling objects finds it way to a populated area. I think it would be worth it to solve that. I know that many orbiting objects are loaded with self destruct systems that will reduce the object to a small enough size to no linger be lethal. I am guessing this satellite was from before that got started.
