A psychic (and supposedly two, but i'm not completely sure on that) told my girlfriend a while back (i wasn't there) that she wasn't going to live past the age of 21. She went to the psychic before we met.
I did some research and found mixed reviews on the accuracy of psychics and i'm not going to try and fuel a debate over whether or not psychics are "for real" or not but i would like to know if any of you can give me an idea, preferably based on experience but not necessarily, of how accurate they may be if at all. I love her very much and would like to know if this could be true... Thank you all! Seanzee P.S. thank you all for replying to my previous thread in the dreams section, i'm very grateful and the tips were put to good use thank you very much! |

Generally VERY VERY inaccurate. Right there about equal with random chance or educated(ish) guess.
If your friend informed the psychic that she's a heroin addict or has a quick-progressing disease that's usually fatal (or anything else like that), then the psychic might be correct. Otherwise, no. I wouldn't worry about it at all. |

I am not a fan of James Randi in any way at all, in fact, I cant stand the bloke, but he has put up a rather huge sum of money to anyone who can do anything what so ever, from water divining to mind reading. His benchmark is that they have to be able to show they can do whatever it is they claim, to some extent greater than random as judged by statistical analysis. NO ONE has claimed the prize yet, and many many have tried over a very long period of time.
I doubt that any so called psychic worth there salt would say something like that anyway. I am guessing they are trying to scare your friend into coming back and back for more info (thus spending more money) I would tell her to not stress. Although with a reading like that it would be pretty hard not to. I feel very sorry for your friend, that is a really crummy thing for anyone to do. But, personally, I would take it with a grin of salt. Many so called psychics use a technique called cold reading, go have a read of this... You watch someone who is good at it and it is mind boggling how convincing they are... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_reading Cold reading is a technique often used by mentalists, fortune tellers, and others posing as psychics and mediums to determine details about a subject through analysis of their body language, appearance and responses to questioning. Even without prior knowledge of a person, a practiced cold reader could obtain a great deal of information about the subject by carefully analyzing that person's body language, clothing, hairstyle, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race or ethnicity, level of education, manner of speech, place of origin, etc. Cold readers often start by making broad guesses and will refine their statements based on clues supplied by the subject, abandoning any incorrect guesses while reinforcing any chance connections the subject acknowledges. |

Yeah the "trying to get her to come back for more and more information" idea sounds about right, they are trying to run a business too, i suppose.
Thank you all, with this new information it's a weight off my shoulders! [phew] |

I wouldn't worry about it.
As Dundee pointed out, a respected psychic would not give out such information. Real psychics are few and far in between anyway. The person she saw probably wasn't psychic at all and just in it for the money & or thrill. -------------------- QUEST FOR THE REAL TRUTH |

In Buddhism we believe in our own action and consequences. There are real psychics and fraud. The real one has mind power that attached to them from lifes before, the result is from their mind practise or meditations and got it.
In the past when Buddha still teaching, there's a monk named Mokalana, the one who buddha admire as the best phenomena and spysic power. Mokalana saw that one of his little monks who served him was going to died in 7 days. So, he told the little monk to visit his parents. The little monk was gone and came back after the visit. Mokalana was stund from his forecast from his inaccuracy so he went to ask Buddha. Buddha told him that his forecast was accurate, but look in between the little monk travelling to visit his parents. He saw so many fish laying in a dried pond not far from a river. With his kindedheart, he put the fish in the cloth and carried them to the river back and forward, back and forward until he helped them all. the previous consiquence that was going to make him died, deluted and not result. so i think to make your girl friend feel relieve, can do something like helping other amimals live. I don't know how but it feels good to do that anyway. |
