The creation of the MIB myth in the 1950’s seems to be an attempt at marketing a sci-fi book…

But the MIB phenomena still persists, and there are still claims of their existance by eye witnesses today...However, no photographic evidence has ever been offered up to substantiate these claims...Reliable ufo witnesses, contactees and experiencers are still being visited by 'someone' or 'something' that threatens and harrasess them into keeping quiet, that much is clear...But exactly 'who' or 'what' these things are, still remains a complete mystery...As far as the 'mothman' rumors go, people still believe it in Point Pleasant, WV...

I find it strange that it's always after one party is dead that they come out and say oh it was all a hoax.

This should be the real question. Did the MIB exist before this man first encountered them and were just waiting to feed his story or do they exist because this man brought them to light and they could now move around more freely?

As for the MothMan, I think it is more than a little creepy to have that statue in town and they Moth Man has been around forever.

There are too many things out there to keep saying it's a weather balloon, a bear, a misidenified moose drinking out of a stream, then again if they came forward and said yes, this is real, this is real and Elvis is still alive there would still be some skeptics out there.

yes, it's very easy to defame someone after their death to try and make your own wrong doings look not so bad eh?

And I find the whole mothman statue a tad freaky too, considering this creature was supposedly somehow involved in the deaths of 46 people...

The MIB reports go back to the 1940's much farther back than Barker and his nonsense...

So how do explain away that little discrepancy?

It wouldn't surprise me in the least to discover that MIBs are real, if not entirely human. In fact, I'd be more surprised to discover they aren't real.

As for the moth man, well, that's another of my top ten places to visit... although I must say that in specials I've seen on television and whatnot, the people seem to be clinging to the tales, true or otherwise, as their one shot at fame and fortune...

I wouldn't be all that surprised to find out that the MIB legend goes back even farther than we think...

There have been reports of contactees and eye witnesses getting visits from beings who didn't quite look, act or sound human long before the whole Barker fiasco even took place...

And as for Mothman? People had to have seen something strange for the rumor to have gotten started...

Every fairy tale creature, mythological beast or legendary monster has some modicum of truth attached to it...

Chinese UFO investigator Shi Bo has uncovered a story that, while far from dramatic, raises some interesting questions concerning the exact nature of the MIB phenomenon, for while UFOs (and, to a lesser extent, MIB) have long been a part of American folklore, they have until only recently been a taboo subject in mainland China. When this set of circumstances is taken into consideration with the fact that the witness in this case was a six year old boy, we may justifiably find ourselves wondering how such an event could occur in the complete absence of a cultural point of reference (assuming, of course, that the existence of MIB is not an objective reality).

In Shi's 1983 book, China and Extraterrestrials, he relates the story of Li Jing-yang who, as a six-year-old boy in Yangguan, Shansi province in May, 1963, had an encounter with a UFO. The day after Li had seen " a shining, silvery disc" hanging in the sky while at play with his friends, he was stopped in the street by "a very tall man dressed entirely in black." The man, while pointing to the exact spot where Li had seen the disc, inquired as to whether the boy had seen anything unusual in the sky recently. Li responded that indeed he had, which elicited from the strange man a warning "never to tell anyone else" what he had seen. The MIB then went around a corner and seemingly disappeared. Li claims that this encounter was witnessed by several others who all noted and discussed the stranger's odd, mechanical movements, his automated-sounding voice, and the fact that his lips did not move when he spoke. Thus, in its effort to keep the disc-sighting of Li Jing-yang a secret, this MIB succeeded only in making a spectacle of itself.

Define MIB, then we can probably have a discussion that does not suffer from ‘mis-interpretations’ of a term. ~rore
