its stories like this that promote discrimination against muslims. im not saying it shouldn't be reported but maybe the news should throw in a little something positive about muslims every once and a while. Its like the freaking crusades never ended.

I think this is EXACTLY the reporting that should be done and I believe it is under, not over, reported so as to not offend "sensibilities". But human rights need to be respected and if societies are not going to respect them then of course they should be "outed" for it. Just as the media should long ago have put way more pressure on the US for Gitmos "limbo" status for its prisoners.

you guys are reading my posts right? I didn't say don't report it i just said maybe they should also report something about islam that doesn't make all muslims look like animals because there are good islamic people out there as hard as it to believe for y'all and i know plenty.

I never said "all Islamists are bad"..I never said any of them were. I said the news report was accurate. I made no comment on the average person in the Islamic world.

But I agree with Tutu..that the "bad" thing there is Islam. And I would agree with you that Christianity and Judaism and the Religion of the Flying Spaghetti Monster are just as bad.

I have spent time, through work, in Islamic nations and have made friends there.. but that doesnt mean I give their religion a free pass simply because Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan are populated by people just as good or bad as London, New York or Tokyo.

You call for more good news to come out of the Islamic world.. but you ignore one of the reasons we dont hear good news is..that its Islamic. We dont here about new economic developments because with a couple of exceptions the Islamic economies are handcuffed by Islamic law (no conventional banks, half the potential workforce kept at home and often uneducated, etc). We dont hear of technology advances because again, this would go against Islamic law in too many cases. You dont hear of lots of peace initiatives because the Islamic world is still obsessed with keeping in power dictators and foreign policy is dominated by a single issue: Israel.

If we dont hear a lot of positives, there are reasons beyond the most appealing to wanting to believe "the man is keeping them all down".

The nation of islam has created many jobs and educated many black people and created succesful comeback stories out of junkies and criminals but im pretty sure you are all going to say nation of islam is a hate group.

All hate groups perform charity work. It doesn't make them not hate groups. They are just using their resources to try to craft a positive image amongst certain groups.

His hypothesis is that the Nation of Islam has been good for African Americans. Whether or not it is a hate group (although there can be little doubt) is beside the point. I suppose that point is up for debate.. I dont know enough either way.

I do know that the Nation of Islam should not be confused with mainstream Islam.. only the NOI claims Elijah Muhammed as a prophet.. and only NOI claims, in essence, that all of creation revolves around the black man. Mohammed did not share this obsession with race, nor does mainstream Islam (indeed without having numbers in front of me I would guess about half of Islam followers are Asian).

We should also note that NOI fails in the same was as all the other religions: being faith based it makes outrageous claims with nothing to back it up (i.e. the Earth is 66 TRILLION years old??).

yes that is my hypothesis vet but i wouldn't call NOI a hate group because unlike neo-nazis, or skin heads, or the kkk, they will never tell you that thet hate other races. After Elijah Muhammed died the NOI eased up on any black supremacy contained in their orginization. This being said there is still some very ignorant things being projected by the NOI that is prejudice.

BTW Andrew its not charity work they are helping their own people (I call that civic responsibility) it is their mission to improve the lives of fellow african-americans through islam and education.

They will never tell you that they hate other races? Well, they rarely come out and say it in polite company. Amongst themselves? Likely a different story and if we extrapolate from public statements (particularly on Jews) then often their public statements dont differ significantly neo-Nazi groups. We come across this question.. is a hate group a hate group for projecting prejudice without explicitly saying they hate? I can understand both sides of the argument, but its rather pedantic to argue it.. the fact is they are hostile to those with a different skin color and have developed a complete mythology to justify it.
