but what KIND of a democracy? or do you actually mean a republic? would you go for a parliamentry style government (Britain, Japan)? Or do you prefer a US style republic with 3 distinct branches of government? They both have their strengths and weaknesses.
Or perhaps something along the lines of a Greek city-state? Where there is voting, but there are more qualifications on voting. Me? I..dont..know... |

I would make a giant commune, based on all the values of the 60s, The national anthem would be John Lennon's song Imagine. All religion would be banned, and Monty Python would be a compulsory subject taught in schools. Science would be banned so we could all believe in crop circles and the pyramids were built by aliens. We would all sit around at night after watching Star Trek and ponder the wonders of the universe.
How does that sound
I reckon it would be pretty nice. Oh yeah, i would bring back Lost in Space and the Brady Bunch too, oh, and get smart, actually my favorite Martian was good too....... |

I would build a government of lies.
I'd say we're a democracy: then vote myself president and stay there forever. I'd say we're a true communist country: then keep all the resources under my control. I'd tell the people every day how much they love me ... and as for all those who don't love: I'd just take them out and shoot them all. Then EVERYBODY will love me. I will think for my people, because they WANT me to think for them. I will be Kim Jong Il, Castro, Napoleon! I will host serious talk shows and game shows. I will appear in a military uniform. I will thumb my nose at the superpowers, and though a mouse, I will roar. I will wear uniforms that cost more than the annual GNP. My palaces will cost more than the houses of all of the people of my country put together (not counting my friends, who will be few and live well). I will give daily speeches, and there will be parades. Forget democracy and capitalism and freedom. I wanna be a fascist dictator! -------------------- I'm trying not to be a drama queen today.

Not full blown stateless anarchy, but small 'democratic' societies that maintain equal trade with eachother. |

ok in my government medical, transportation, infrastructure and education would all be run by the government. Food and housing would be provided by the gov. Entertainment would be private.
I would install a system in which the PEOPLE get to vote on all important issues not reps and popular vote is the only vote that matters. |

Letting the people decide EVERYTHING ... hmmmm
On the surface, great idea. However, the problems are several: (a) you'd have to work out a system that would prevent the most populated states from overruling the underpopulated states on everything. You could say: "Well, it won't be based on states because EVERYBODY will have a vote", but then what's to stop, say, California from putting things on the ballot that benefits California and then it passes because they have enough people behind it? ( you'd need experts. How can the average person decide what's best? People would vote on things that would best serve the average person in the short term, rather than what benefits the nation in the long term.Yes, we could vote to give everybody a house, everybody a free college education, free medical care, a standard wage that allows people to eat, a salary for mothers so they can stay home and raise the baby instead of working, and on and on: where will we get the money for all that? Print it up? It becomes meaningless. Look at the troubles that new revolutionary governments have had. I've studied revolutions in all parts of the world, studied them formally. The vast majority of revolutionary governments abandon their high ideals and end up fascist dictatorships within a year, and that's if they survive at all. You're not going to like this analogy, but follow the logic and you'll see my point: allowing 'the people' to decide how the country will go is like letting the children choose what to have for breakfast. The experts, in this case Mom and Dad, have to set parameters on the choices based on the needs of the children, in this case, the population. The reason: What we want must be tempered by what we need, and the average person, in my opinion, is not always very well educated on the difference. Neither, in my opinion, are a vast number of politicians. So here's what I would do: get experts in economics, sociology, logistics, education, transportation, etc. (in other words, all the people who currently advise the politicians) together. Let the experts set the parameters. Then let the people decide. I think we must have representatives of social, ethnic and economic groups (we've seen what happens when we let the rich decide: they very rarely care what happens to the poor: look at 19th century America). I'm against the politicians and lawyers who run our bureaucracy. I'd love to see an end to such things as the electoral college system. I'd love to see the people get a direct vote on more matters. However, I think we do need representatives to talk about our needs for the future. -------------------- I'm trying not to be a drama queen today.

Not full blown stateless anarchy, but small 'democratic' societies that maintain equal trade with eachother. Here Here! Unfortunately that would only work if we all lived rural lives in small populations. Anarchy in the big cities would not be a good thing. The solution? Reduce the planetary population back down to a managable size. How? Kill alot of people. Therein lies the fault of Anarchy. Besides I prefer Nihilism myself. SO in essence, in leu of having any better ideas, I simply don't give a crap what type of government I live under, so long as nobody touches my stuff. lol |

kirin-rex i thought about the people being uneducated and thats why i decided that if i had a revolution i would slowly trasition the people into it over a course of about 20 years as more and more people get educated through a completely reformed education system they would be able to make intelligent decisions. As for paying for things thats what taxes are for.
