I haven't slept well in the past couple of days...
I dont know why...
I never really sleep well, like how most people explain good, or adequate sleep as being.
But the past couple of days has been sitting in bed, looking into blackness for 2-4 hours before finally falling asleep.
Then, I wake up about 4 times in the middle of the night, then finally sleep until morning when I wake up before my body has gotten an adequate amount of sleep, and I sit in bed until I have to get ready for the morning.
I think it is hereditary, or something, because my dad has sleeping problems, and so does my grandmother.
I tried about a month ago to bring the problems to a temporary end by taking some melotonin, or whatever, and it didn't work at all. What do you guys think I should do?

I too have some sleep problems, what works for me (and my kids) is to lie there, and slowly put my attention on the toes of my foot, make a concious effort to be aware of them, then make sure they are relaxed , then go to the ball of your foot, then ankle and so on. Start at the bottom, miss nothing, hips back bum the lot. Most times I am asleep before I make it to my neck.
Make sure you are eating healthy and getting some exercise. I guess ofter you exhaust all the natural things, perhaps go see your doctor.

My doctor reckons it's amazing that anyone can sleep properly these days considering that we use artificial light which screws up our bio rhythms etc...

One compensation though, at least us humans are lucky though...

Imagine the plight of the poor moth who is attracted to the artificial light in that it goes crazy buzzing around in circles and gets burnt and thus can die..

Apart form all the obvious stuff like eliminate stress blah blah blah, perhaps you should try taking Kava Kava tea. That is, if it's legal in your country. It's not really a drug. It's like valerian root, only this one works. I've never tried it.
The government gives it to the aborigines here in Australia because some areas have a high alcohol and glue sniffing problem. Kava kava is healthier than drinking, and you don't become an imbecile when drunk on it. You just sleep.

My wife takes it in a capsule form.
She says it helps her to sleep, while melatonin did nothing for her.

The melatonin is probably "homeopathic melatonin", which means there are no active ingredients. Homeopathy has been proven beyond a doubt that it is utter rubbish.
The kava kava really does work. In high enough dozes, it gets you drunk like alcohol does (without the bad side effects).
