I have a feeling that our developing technology is more for us going against opposing countries than anything else. That, and I've never seen any evidence of aliens warning us about attacks from another world. But feel free to provide some back-stories.

zues....I hear you.....I've lived through about 8 or 9 ends of the world.....hence the reason I'm not losing any sleep over this one.....

You have to admit, with all the crap that's going on the web and TV lately about the end of the world, it's a pretty sound theory. However, the whole 2012 thing is probably a crock. It's a weak base for any theory, no matter how sound the theory seems. Without a strong base no infrastructure can be held up. If the future is already written, why even try to live? If everything is preordained, what's the point?

My other point is, if there is something on this planet that someone else wants you wouldn't want to bombard it killing everything from orbit. You would make the planet too toxic for your workers, or just make it that much harder to find what you are looking for. Your other option is to land troops on the planet of an entire species that is the master of war on their home turf. I actually feel sorry for the alien soldier that is tasked to fight us. He would stand little to no chance in success. Heck, even unarmed we have mastered the art of killing each other with little to no effort. Would a skinny, feeble, big headed 4 foot pencil neck really stand a chance? A 10 year old child could take it out and go back to playing GI Joe with little thought. It would be like killing a rodent in their mind. It's not human, and causes harm, kill it. Killing a human is much harder. First of all you would have to convince yourself the other person deserves to die, then you have to actually pursue and cause physical bodily harm. Even if you catch up with the person, chances are they might try to talk you out of killing them using persuasion.

Or you could try to control the public via subversion. This would take way too long and would not be "cost efficient" so to say.

If you want something from Earth, set up trade. That's how man has done it for years. Set up business, and trade ideas and product for other ideas and product.
