Just when you think you have heard it all.....
QUOTE People News
Australian Man Shoots Himself Using Robot He Built from Internet Plans Atlanta, Ga. 3/19/2008 05:42 PM GMT (FINDITT) An 81-year-old Australian man committed suicide on Wednesday after building a complex robotic machine designed to shoot him. The man was apparently upset by relatives’ demands that he move from his house and into a care facility. Rather than move the man scoured the Internet and found blueprints on how to create a device that would fire a weapon. Early Wednesday morning he set the machine up in the driveway and within moments several workers in the area heard shots fired and discovered the man dead. The machine had been designed to unload multiple rounds from a gun via a remote control. -------------------- QUEST FOR THE REAL TRUTH |

Maybe because he did not want to pull the trigger himself. Yes, but it was remote controlled which meant he would have to push the button anyway, very odd indeed.... -------------------- Nathanial "a_skeptic" Meade 1979-2007 RIP |

My guess on why he did not shoot himself is because of his belief that if you commit suicide that you are damned to hell in the afterlife. So by getting the machine to do it he might have thought that it wasn't technically suicide. I've heard of people doing things to make the cops shoot them instead of killing themselves. Or the wanted to end his life in a dramatic way. Either way very interesting.

What's the difference between pushing a button and pulling a trigger? I guess it's the intimacy of a gun that might have been difficult, or, rather, in other words, it's just easier on the mind to push a button? It also could have been his belief that this way of doing it would not expel him to the underworld, so-to-say. -------------------- ![]() "Even when we know we'll never find the answers, we have to keep on asking the questions." If we could do this, we would have the next step in the evolution of life." Taken |

My guess is that it was on a random timer. He pushes the button and then anywhere between 10 seconds and 5 minutes it fires. This way it's unexpected. Or something.
And about the suicide/ heaven/ hell thing: I don't think god would go, "Oh, damn! He thwarted me! Why didn't I think of that when writing the rule book!" -------------------- -senhuan the duck
