It seems that a clay tablet describes the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, 5000 years ago, as being that of a mile wide asteroid. blink.gif blink.gif

An asteroid is certainly a more viable explanation than a spook from the sky who was pissed off.
But the claim that it is a mile wide is dubious. An asteroid that large would do much more than destroy a couple of cities. It would have Earth-wide ramifications. If this really did happen, then the asteroid was much smaller than claimed.

yeh and that one good man would have not been able to escape.is there a crater at the alleged site.all impacts of that size would leave evidence.it sounds more like a nuclear targeted strike.erik von daniken believed that a nuclear war had taken place long ago in the past.

I am also wondering how they knew the size of the asteroid. It's not easy finding that out about existing asteroids even today. Back then, it would have simply looked like it came out of nowhere, and since it was traveling at many miles a second, that wouldn't have given people much chance to get their measuring tape out.

I agree.
How the hell would there be anybody left close enough that could have see it was an asteroid?
If it was a soft asteroid, then why didn't it break up long before hitting the earth there? I would think it would of hit in a multiple of spots across a very wide area.

SD....it could have been an airburst such as the Tunguska event, because even a small asteriod 50 to 100 feet across that impacts the earth would leave a observable crater.....especially in a desert environment. To the best of my knowledge they have not identified an impact crater in the area.
