This could be really interesting, if there going to announce something that started in 1957/8:

1957

The International Atomic Energy Agency is established
The Soviet Union launches Sputnik 1
Radio telescope of Jodrell Bank, Cheshire, UK, opened
The Soviet Union launches Sputnik 2. On board is the first animal to enter space - a dog named Laika
First U.S. attempt to launch a satellite fails, the rocket blowing up on the launch pad

1958

The first successful American satellite, Explorer 1, is launched into orbit
The word Aerospace is coined, from the words Aircraft (aero) and Spacecraft (space) taking into consideration that the Earth's atmosphere and outer space is to be one, or a single realm
Bertrand Russell launches the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament
The United States launches the Vanguard 1 satellite
The United States Army launches Explorer 3
A formal North American Aerospace Defense Command agreement is signed between the United States and Canada
The Soviet Union launches Sputnik 3
Explorer 1 ceased transmission
The U.S. Congress formally creates the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
The United States begins Operation Argus
Two rockets designed by German engineer Ernst Mohr (the first German post-war rockets) reach the upper atmosphere
Pioneer 1, the second and most successful of three project Able space probes, became the first spacecraft launched by the newly formed NASA
During the International Geophysical Year, Earth's magnetosphere is discovered
The largest solar maximum in recorded history of solar maxima occurs

I look forward to this with baited breath, I just hope the news is not an anticlimax!

Yep, never believe the hype. Such things are always exaggerated in their importance when the real subject matter is concealed until the actual press conference.

The black hole would be less interesting than the earth-like planet. The centre of the galaxy is not so difficult to find, it lies in one direction only, so it is not much of a 'search' to find it. And I am not sure that the super-massive-black-hole-at-the-centre-of-the-galaxy hypothesis is more than fifty years old.

The event horizon is the minimum radius encircling a singularity outside of which we can retrieve information. It is the sphere on which the escape velocity is the speed of light. The singularity exists at the centre of the event horizon.

EDT is GMT-4, so that would be 6 p.m. British Summer Time.
