The day before yesterday i was watching a video on you tube, then, ping the power went.i checked the fusebox it wasn't that.my nieghbour was in but didn't hear me knock to check if she had same prob(bloody ipods). Then my wife phoned me to say the school had called, and the school is being evacuated becuase there was a huge fire somwhere and it was producing toxic smoke which was drifting towards the school.as i left my house my neighbour was about to knock to say the school had phoned her about the problem,so we left together.while walking to the school(400 yards)i could see a huge plume of black acrid smoke rising high into the sky,

when i reached the school,it was then someone told me that there had been an explosion near the Anglia Ruskin University which has some 8,000 students.i picked up my 3 older kids as we came home we taste the smoke almost.a police helicopter hovered overhead informing people to stay indooors and shut our windows due to toxic smoke.me and the kids watched the plume of smoke and the helicopter from the back bedroom window. As time passed we learnt that an explosion had happened at the electric substation in town.Unfortunatley one man was killed,an engineer for EDF.my thoughts go out to his family.we lost power for eight hours or so,some people had to go 24 hours or more,so i guess we were lucky.i just thought i'd share it with you guys.

just reported on the local news that it may take some time to find out what caused the explosion.they may have to dismantle the substation completetly,so we may be set for some more disruption.

Sounds like maybe the worker who was killed may have caused an arc-flash.
