The French police have long been informed of procedure to follow when receiving reports of and dealing with UFOs. Official procedure was published in "Gendarmerie Nationale", the official publication of the Gendarmerie (The French Para-military).

But does anybody know when this procedure was first introduced or published? Can anybody find any references to this published material? Specific dates are especially important to me. Unfortunately most information is bound to be in French, which makes things difficult for me, but any info would be great.

OK, it is a French website and thus it's in French, but you have an English translation available for the main “rapports” (National Gendarmerie reports - NGR) when you click on the flag-button at the top right corner.

To my knowledge, the NGRs were initiated during the 1951 UFO flap. Nowadays, ‘true Unknowns’ reports directly go to the DGA/DAM (Military research centre), while ‘all’ other reports remain at the GEPAN/SEPRA/CNES, in Toulouse.
