I do not want to mock anyone, or open a can of worms, but to address an often used argument in religion vs science type conversations. That being "Well. The greatest scientist who ever lived, Einstein, believed in God. What do you have to say to that?!"

I bring to your attention the following article:

http://www.livescience.com/history/ap-0805...n-religion.html

Quote form the article:

Einstein dismissed the idea of God as the product of human weakness and the Bible as "pretty childish.''

"For me,'' he added, "the Jewish religion like all other religions is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions.''

Read the whole thing, obviously. There is more to it than just that.

Dr Richard Dawkins also said that religion is the process of a person reverting back to a childish (naive) nature.

OK. You can all kill me now.

Im glad you posted this for one reason.. The Christian Right and their agenda often take Einsteins quotes way out of context and try to make it seem as if he believed in a "God in the Sky" type of religion. When he referred to God (i.e. God does not play dice with the universe) he wasnt being literal.

However, your characterization of Richard Dawkins views on religion are a gross simplification. He believes that religion comes about as a sort of twist on the imaginary friend type programming in our brain, and a number of other factors, including the automatic reaction of our brain to seek causality, the product of evolving in a threat-filled environment.

Anyway, good post.

Thanks.

And I will find you what Dawkins said, and he did say what I said he did. I'll post it after some sleep. It's my first day of my new job tomorrow! smile.gif

Dawkins is a sick and twisted man. I would not put it past him that he has many "imaginary friends". Thus it would easy for him to say that others must be driven by them too.

There can be no doubt that religion has made some grave errors. What is written is not all true in that you can not take it at face value. Yet any man of "Science" that attacks religion is confessing his own stupidity.

Einstein did not attack religion, he attacked the stupidity that was being forwarded as religion. He also did the same with science. All is not correct with religion or science, so it is beyond both to attack the other for it's very existence.

At this time let it be enough to say that religion has strayed from it's ability to perform it's functions. And that it will one day be able to resume these functions.

There is nothing wrong with squashing stupidity, yet don't make the mistake of thinking that someones stupidity is all there is to the subject.
