We get a LOT of UFO vids these days. Some are pretty good. Some are pretty bad. Some are CLEARLY hoaxes, and some ... hate to say this, being a skeptic, but some are undoubtedly (imo) aliens ships. Some hoax videos are SO good that they should be real. Those people ought to work in movies. Some REAL videos, though, are SO bad that they might as well be fake because we can't SEE what it is the videographer's trying to capture. So: a few tips.

1) Spend the couple hundred bucks on a good tripod that will fold up. A lot of these have a carrying case and a shoulder strap. My tripod has a thing that connects to the bottom of the camera so that I can easily, in one step, flip a switch to release the camera from the tripod. You just snap it in and snap it out. Makes using a tripod much easier.

2) On the tripod, loosen all the swivel screws so you can get a nice easy movement. Practice opening and closing the screws with convenient fingers and thumbs.

3) Practice zooming and panning. Zoom and Pan should either be one quick motion that then stops and remains, or it should be a slow, steady pan or zoom. Too many UFO videographers do the zoom in and zoom out repeatedly. Every time you change the zoom, the camera has to refocus and you end up with a blurry object. Don't zoom in too close on an object with erratic direction changes because you're never going to catch up. Zoom out and be satisfied with a star that moves around like crazy.

4) Get perspective. Get some trees, buildings or horizon in the picture. Clouds aren't good enough because there's no way to estimate size. With only the sky in the picture, there's no way to know how big it is or how far away it is.

5) Get a hosted video account that allows people to download hi-rez. Many you-tube vids are too low-rez to really make out details.

Try getting some still shots too. My camera takes stills.

I know, I know: nobody EXPECTS to see a UFO. I've heard this: all I'm saying is that, without clear video, it could be anything.
