Hey Everyone,

I already posted this on 2 other message boards relative to this subject. I am not trying to spam this or anything. It has just been getting quite the response, so I thought I would post it here and see what you guys think.

I was at work yesterday and while searching for UFO stuff during lunch, I came across this photo and was quite impressed with what I saw. On the other boards there has been debate as to whether this object is sunlight coming through clouds or an actual craft. Some others are saying that it was "photoshopped". I am not sure, but I definitely do not think it is sun coming through the clouds. When I look at the picture I see individual lights creating the beam of light.

Anyway, take a look at it and let me know what you think!

Check it out...

Welcome to the forum.
That is an interesting picture.
Not sure what to make of it.
Could be photoshoped.

Was there any story behind it?

Hey Thanks for the response and welcoming me here.

I guess the guy was just taking pictures of the rainbow and while looking at them at a later time discovered this in the photo. If you go back to that link and you can read what he wrote about it.

How could it be sun through clouds if there is no cloud mass where that is? You can see in the pic the small puffs of clouds near it, but there is no large cloud for that to be shooting through.

also the sun is behind the photographer, because you need the sunlight to refract in the raindrops to produce a rainbow.you can only get a rainbow when sun and rain are both present.so its something else.

Sun through clouds

Rainbows form opposite the sun. As the rainbow is in the frame, it cannot be the sun in the same direction as the rainbow. It could still be any number of things, though.

Very interesting. I hope it's not a military plane off in the distance leaving a chemtrail, lol.

Thanks!

When I saw it my first impression was also that it was the sun. However, when I really looked close I realized that it couldn't have been the sun. I also know that I've never seen anything quite like it before.

A layer of cloud is covering most of the sky.. you can see through to blue sky at the top right.. looks like theres one of those orbs things there too... strange what that thing is though.. the sun is somewhere to the right side of the pic.. so it cant be light poking through a hole in the cloud

I would have to assume it would be the result of moisture in the upper atmosphere that is refracting the light from the sun, producing a rainbow type effect...

a similar effect was witnessed in the clouds before the eathquake in china http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KKMTSDzU1Z4

This looks like quite probably a daytime meteor, big enough to make it under the cloud deck while breaking up. The short trail would be consistent with a daytime meteor; these meteors are typically much slower traveled than a normal night time meteor. During meteor showers, or any time you just happen to be out watching meteors, you'll notice that shortly after midnight, the number of meteors observed rises significantly, they'll drop off after sunrise, (you won't see these unless they're pretty big) and be rare between noon and midnight. The reason is that between midnight and noon, the surface of the Earth that you happen to be standing on is pointing in the same direction of the Earth's travel, heading into the wind, you might say. Between midnight and sunrise, this 'quarter' of the Earth is not only leading the way, but is also pointing in the direction of the outer solar system, the direction from which most meteors come.

Anyway, the analogy would be the bugs on your car: lot's of them on the windshield and grill, just about nothing on the back window. Most daytime meteors are those that are going fast relative to the rest of the solar system, but not so fast relative to us; they're "catching up" to the Earth from behind, so to speak, and can appear to be far slower than the typical meteor that you see at night, and that's almost certainly what's in this photo.
