That is a difficult one for a family man because your love for your family influences you greatly. I would probably spend my life looking for them. If I new for example all were taken by aliens, and there was no chance of getting them back it would be different.
I have never really needed the company of people so I doubt it would send me mad. As a kid I hitched around 22,000 km around Australia on my own over a period of time and didn't get lonely once. Even when in the middle of nowhere. I quite like the feeling of solitude. |

I think it would be strange at first, i mean how long would it take for you to be totally convinced that you were alone, and then there is the case of it would not be as easy to survive in the modern world with no people as we think, for a start most of what we take for granted runs on power, so i think after a few years or even less we would have to be in a routine or we would die.... -------------------- Nathanial "a_skeptic" Meade 1979-2007 RIP |

well, what're the specifics on the situation, do gas stations still pump gas? what caused their death?
Cuz depending on the specs, I can think of a ton of ways to have fun, and kill some time, but at the same time, whose gonna check out my myspace page!?!? |

You would adapt. There is no one else to judge if your adaptations were sane or not. So you would not be aware of your mental state. We could only measure them by how long you survived.

Sounds like "The Quiet Earth", a NZ movie from 1985. Pretty odd. Watch the first bit where the scientist is alone. Goes a bit loony-toons.

There would be plenty of things to do on an "empty Earth" to last you until the end of your days. Too many things, really. There would also be enough resources to last you until the end of your days.
You would, however, have to be relatively learned in regards to health-related subjects, as you may have to treat yourself medically at some point in time. Imagine cutting out your own appendix. I know that if I had to, I could (with the help of a manual). Hooray for books! The main problem would be not going insane as such, but turning 'peculiar'. You would start talking to yourself a lot, and those conversations would become more real with passing time. However, this would not necessarily preclude you from functioning and taking care of yourself. I always thought this was a fascinating scenario for a story. -------------------- -senhuan the duck

With no way to reproduce, it is extenction so what does it matter? if tht were to happen, i think i'd be alright... sure i'd prolly go insane, but i would be content... i'd stay in one city until resources are exhausted, then i move on... from town to town. maybe grab a U-haul truck and fill it with some gasoline cans and trek all over north america.. i believe i alone wouldn't use all of north americas stuff, so i'd be good until death.. |

just think of the peace and quiet ...pure serenity - talking to oneself would help and those that needed more could always pick up a bevy of beautiful mannequins in the higher end clothing boutiques

if that happened, i would be freaked. but apart from survival, i'd dedicate the rest of my life to finding someone else. because i wouldnt be convinced that EVERYONE disappeared and would believe that there must be more like me and its only a matter of finding them
