Likely are plasma.

The Brown Mountain Lights in western North Carolina date from pre Columbian history til now. The geology is quartz and magnetite with many caves. Water causes pressure and generates plasma when quartz is compressed. Very unusual, but not UFO.

People have touched them and felt elictrical shock, tingling. Sometimes they seem to move away or follow people. Charged field reacting to bodies electrical field?

This is by no means a verified but appears to be a good explenation.
