This makes the second mention I have seen about this. Has NASA got something they are itching to say?

Even if it is not an announcement of life (unlikely), it could be something to the effect of key signs that life was once extant on Mars. The Earth like soil BTW is a BIG hint.

Well, I guess we basically have the answer to what this is. It's not evidence of life or whatever but a water absorbing acid that has the tendency to oxidize things it comes into contact with.

NASA is having a teleconference to discuss their chemical interests and findings with Martian soil in more detail today.
