OK so I have, over a long period of time, developed an evolving and relatively self servicing interest in all things extra terrestrial but I feel as though I need to be properly informed now and I have no idea where to start...I was wondering if anyone had any pointers as to books I could purchase or places I could go to read up on anything to do with aliens/UFOs/anything extra terrestrial at all. I'm a firm believer in the fact that as we as a society develop and start to realize that there are numerous planets outside of our solar system, it is insanely naive to think that we are the only form of life in the universe and it is only a natural progression from that train of thought to one that involves outside contact....

Welcome to the forum.
Read books by J. ALLEN HYNEK or Stanton Friedman. There are many others, but they would be a good start.

This site is the best site that I have found for past UFO information. It lists all the famous sightings, abductions and encounters with any photos, sketches or drawings that went with them. It takes you back to the 'Airship' reports of the late 1800s as well.

Also, read sites and forums of a non-UFO nature, but more of science and astronomy oriented such as space.com and their forum http://www.space.com/common/community/forums/

I find that a lot of people who like to talk about UFOs and aliens often tend to look silly for lack of basic ground knowledge in other fields.

This forum really rocks, i was blessed to have found this first before shifting through
the chaff.

Hi , SD, I totally agree; Ufo-evidence is an awesome site for full and unbiased
disclosure neither collaborating nor editing info so as to change the histories.

A recommend to flamey.

GEt a solid back ground in logical thinking before going much further. Also examine your motives
for this pursuit. and learn as much as you can about scams and con work, confidence games and
view many of the very good and well done hoaxes. It will help you be much more
discerning in viewing any "evidence ' that you may find yourself scrutinizing in the future.
It is in this day and age of extremely high tech easy by lightyears to fake things that
a hundred years ago snake oil sales men and con artists could not even dream of accomplishing.

I just learned yesterday that one of the ways to check a photo of alledged aliens is
to count the pixels of the alien viewed to the pixels of the rest of the photo to show if
there had been some dark room work or computer manipulation of the images "todo"
(as a whole).

shows those that are not provable fakes from those that are confirmable fakes.

Searching Amazon.com for extraterrestrials, I found:

http://www.amazon.com/UFO-Extraterrestrial...123&sr=8-23

"460,000 Years of UFO-Extraterrestrials Biggest Events and Secrets from Phoenicia to The White House: From Nibiru, Zetas, Anunnaki, Sumer To Eisenhower, MJ12, CIA, Military Abductees, Mind Control" by Maximillean De Lafayette

which seems interesting. There are other titles, but seem a bit flaky.

The MJ12 spin offs should make good reading, as it's all the rage again within certain circles. That thoughts may be controlled through projected illusions, and implication of verbal commands given. Although, any student of the human psyche will scoff at this, it covers well the mandates necessary to drive large crowds to action. Translucent in that it's a mind set, not given to indication on an intended subject. But, I ain't no PhD.

Try amazon.com though, and search terms you're interested in.

Also, if you are really interested in UFOs, I suggest learning about meteorological phenomena, such as stars and meteors, St. Elmo's Fire, swamp gas (lol), etc. I also suggest learning about balloons, weather balloons, and so on. Knowing a bit about birds and insects is also good.

Then, using your new scientific knowledge, look at what skeptics say about different UFO pics. You'll be able to quickly get rid of hoaxes and misidentifications and get down to the really SERIOUS ufo research.

This forum is a GREAT place to start. I've learned LOADS here.

I agree J. Allen Hynek and Stanton Friedman. In particular a book called Night Siege: The Hudson Valley UFO Sightings. The book is about a flurry of sightings in the New York area. I couldn't put the book down: excellent witnesses and very detailed sightings.
