Would an extraterrestrial believe in God or some form of higher power?

I believe that no matter how advanced a civilization is the majority would believe in some form of higher power. I dont mean God in the Christian sense but some kind of higher power whatever their interpretation of it may be. Save for tv shows such as stargate and video games such as halo not many have thought on the concept of an extraterrestrial religion. reply im eager to hear ur thoughts

this thread belongs in the religion forum.

but to answer your question: who cares?

by that i mean...

until people stop caring if someone is religious or not there will be no intelligent discussion of it.

Why not?
I don't suppose for one minute that they regard Him as God in the sense that we do.
I should imagine that they think about Him along the lines of "The Supreme Intelligence".
The Ultimate in Pure Thought, Energy and Conception, The Alpha and the Omega.
We can come up with all manner of thoughts and theories. We'll just have to wait till we meet an Alien and ask him.

people get too passionate about religion. from both major arguments. (for / against) thats why i stay out of the religion forum. lol.

personally, i don't care if people do or don't, so i suppose aliens would deserve the same respect.

maybe you are right.
maybe they would see it as math or science.
perhaps they wouldn't think of it at all.
maybe they are 'closer to god' or more in touch with their spirituality.
faith might be a concept that is alien to them.

like you say... theres no way of knowing without interaction.

Unless they would be sort of a collective mind race, I'd say they would believe in some sort of a Higher leader, whether it would be a "conceptual", intangible God or one just like the rest of them but with longer antenna, sitting on top of a pyramid, that's a different story. Exactly the same what we have / have had here on our ball.

I do believe in God, but looking at this from another point of view, making people follow passionately a religion or creating a fear of God(s) is a great way of controlling masses... I'm sure some other race has also thought about it.

It depends on what their definition of "God" is and your definition of "God" is too.

Would an extraterrestrial believe in God or some form of higher power?

One of the things that separated early humans from the rest of the living world was self awareness and the concept of their own immortality. Tens of thousands of years later, people still wonder about that, because as advanced as science has become in explaining the macro and micro world of physics, there remains the question that is impossible to answer: why did this universe happen? I believe there are three stages in self awareness:

1) a species becomes self aware, and because of that, invents gods to explain themselves.

2) a species' science becomes advanced to the point where most everything can be explained through equations, and gods are discarded.

3) a species realizes that "why did this universe happen?" can never be explained away with math, and so the concept of a higher being re-emerges.

Aliens visiting Earth, if they exist, are smarter than we are, or they wouldn't be here. As advanced as they might be, there's still that lingering question, the one that's impossible to answer, even for them.
