Hit the shark right on the nose. The eye and the nose are about the only sensitive places on a shark. They use their nose to touch things, much like a human uses a finger. It's very sensitive. Punch a shark in the nose a few times and it should lose interest.

I read a case years ago about a guy on the gulf coast of Texas. His daughter was being attacked by a shark, so he grabbed the shark and pulled it onto the beach.

yeah... he "dove headfirst into the water"... its not like he couldn't have said "screw this" and then walked away.

i'm willing to bet that most people that go around punching sharks do it because the don't have much choice.
