When I was a kid I used to spend the summers with my grandparents. They lived in a log cabin on a mountain in Danial Boone forest in Kentucky. I dont think my grandmother had ever been off the mountain more than a few times in her life. She was mixed Native American and caucasion.

I have seen mountain lions there. In the fall during breeding season they would scream very loud at night. When I was five I asked my grandfather why women were screaming in the woods at night and how they could scream so loud. He thought that was funny.

They used to inhabit most of the US and much of Canada a few hundred years ago. We have nearly exterminated them but it would not surprise me if some were still around.

They seemed curious and would follow people occasionally but I never heard of them attacking anyone. Occasionally western ones do. Don't know why.
