What events can't you wait to see? Who will win them? Any guesses? Here you will be updated on the latest from Athens (or atleast we can try to stay up-to-date). We can also keep a Olympic medal count here, etc. Anything that has to do with the Olympics, feel free to chat about here.

I always tend to wait for the Gymnastic events and swimming. Those are my 2 favourites.
Not sure whose going to win yet, but I'll be rooting for England(of course).
Funnily years ago when I was young I always thought the Russian gymnasts were good and rooted for them as well.

Bring back David Wilkie that's what I say. smile.gif

I actually dusted my tv... hmmmm it was thick... then found which button to push... and whalla!! It worked and watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics... even got up at 3am Saturday morning ready for my time 3.30am start.... Was worth it... I thought the opening was impressive simple and a real classic...
Well done Greece....

I missed the really good bit at the begining...but wern't the competitors happy..nice to see so many smiley faces from all over the world..long may it continue. biggrin.gif

I love the track and the swimming events myself..but apart from my own country.(oh and of course all of yours providing we aren't a contender for the medal places) I cheer the little places, with only a few contestants competing in the whole olympics! smile.gif

The opening ceremony was really nice. They did a great job putting it all together.

Im happy to see Afghanistan is back competing in the games since they were suspended in 1999... and has sent women to compete for the first time EVER.

Greco-Roman wrestling is just one of the events Im waiting to watch..

Israel will take gold in the soccer competition. Their defence is a rock solid wall!

Iranian Withdraws From Olympics Instead of Facing Israeli in Competition

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's Olympic team chief said world judo champion Arash Miresmaeili should receive a $115,000 (61,000 pounds) reward for refusing to compete against Israel in his first-round match at the Athens Olympics.

"I hope Iran's sporting officials agree to give the reward which he deserves, because he could easily have won a medal of some colour," Nassrollah Sajadi told the Sharq newspaper.

Well, I guess some people just can't play together...

I'm rivetted... so glad the tv works... I rarely watch tv and so all I have in the shape of a tv is this old second hand thing which is push button only... no remote... archaic... but it does the job....

Not long ago saw a Polish female swimmer win the first gold medal... male and female.... Poland has ever won in swimming in the history of the Olympics... Excellent stuff... I get all emotional sometimes just to see the looks on their faces... especially when they win... and my heart goes out to them to see the disappointment in their eyes when they stuff up.... Saw a young Japanese bloke win his second gold in swimming and being from a fairly reserved people in emotional display it was great to see him let loose...

There is a nightime slot when our crass commedian commentators come and talk about and show some of the Olympic events... It's a ripper... They also show all the screw ups and analyse them.... Anyone over 38 or whatever is said to have been rescued from the knackers yard... Events are describe in such terms as... we want to see the blokes who can put the most in the air with their feet under them for things like jumping... And by cripes... you should hear what they say about the male gymnasts who use the horse apparatus... and weightlifting too... talk about over the top funny crude... makes a decent person blush hearing some of the stuff they put on aussie tv... But I love it... arh... we're in for a thriller...

Thanks for the medal tally andpau... love the headgear they get in medal presentation... The laurel garland is it??? Brings tears to my eyes when they play the anthems... I love ritual and ceremony as much as I love chaos... wow!!!

I like the canoe events... the bike races and the horse events... basketball... and marathon type races... In actuality though, my favourite is the Winter Olympics though... Okay... that's my Olympic rave... I'm addicted... I badly lack sleep and I watch even as I type this....

The rowings been pretty good, and the sailing...love the swimming..getting to see quite a bit of that, paitiently waiting on the track events....not much of a judo or weight lifting person....Dressarge and showjumping...well who gets the medal the horse or the rider? just seems odd to have that in the olympics...

Do you think parachuting will ever get into the olympics? smile.gif or hang glyding?
