Our nation is facing an impending tragedy, and we don't even know it. These precious gems are vanishing beneath our very noses! And what are we doing about it? NOTHING.

Yes, that's right: I'm talking about the missing letters.

What happened to the 'c' in "quick"?
The 'y' and the 'o' in "you"?
The 'a' and 'e' in "are"?
What's with the numbers for words that aren't supposed to be numbers?

Once a phenomenon mostly contained within the Internet for typers' ease, this horrible plague is slowly seeping into our everyday world. Singers are naming their songs using these atrocities of the English language. Shirts are being printed with misprinted labels! It's everywhere. Pretty soon, English teachers will be so confused with this giant rift in spelling that they'll all just quit in protest.

It's a conspiracy, I say. They're trying to stupify us, bash our language to pieces when we're least prepared. A major turning point for today's English language? Yes, but certainly not for the better. They're trying to make us ashamed of our language, so much so that we'll decide to disqualify the one single vote that determined whether we spoke English as the official language or not. Who knows? By next decade, we could be speaking German.

I think it's less of a conspiracy and more of a lack of effort and brainpower. It really doesn't take that long to type those extra letters... I read something in the news a while back about how kids now turn in papers and essays with "instant message" type text. I hope they fail, every one of them. That's why I'd be a bad teacher. I really would get off on writing a big, red "F" on a student's crappy paper. Hell, I'd even bring back the "F–".

I've known this country's been on an intellectual downslide for like the past several years.

Look at the president we elected.
