Very interesting. Thanks for a great find.

I wonder if it would be possible to do some excavating around the well where pieces of the craft were thrown in? And maybe even exhumed the alien body. That would be an awesome discovery if of course it wasn't already done in secret by someone else or the government.

The story of the airship and Judge Proctor's mill is an interesting one but is now generally believed to have been a hoax. It's particularly interesting because there is supposedly so much physical evidence to be had... if we could just find it.

Here's a link to an article written by the eminent Jacques Vallee that mentions the Proctor's Mill incident and several other physical evidence cases:

http://www.scientificexploration.org/jse/a....3_vallee_2.pdf

In the process of looking up references for this case, I ran across an e-book version of John A. Keel's 1970's book, The Mothman Prophecies, which also mentions the Proctor case. When I read this book as a teenager, I admit it had me more than a little freaked out. Keel may play fast and loose with the facts but there's no denying he's a pretty damn good writer.

Here's the link to the e-book:

I also recall the comedy group Firesign Theatre mentioning the Proctor's Mill incident on one of their classic comedy albums. The name of the album, oddly enough, is "Everything You Know Is Wrong"...

Mothman was very scary...I did further research after watching the movie. Firesign was great. "Our ancestors did drugs!".

How come we never hear of UFO related stories from centuries ago?

There are any number of stories about UFOs in ancient times, Keegan. There's the story of Ezekiel in the Old Testament. For my money, the story of the transfiguration of Christ in the New Testament sounds a hell of a lot like an encounter with unknown creatures.

There's dozens more. A quick Google search on "ancient astronauts" and you'll get a bunch of hits for articles pro and con.
