We have heard from various sources that Crop Circles have been around for at least a hundred years,
and farmers and the workers used to find the basic circles in their crop fields. We didn't have all these beautiful and amazing patterns which we get these days. I found a picture of a field which has been attacked by a storm on the internet. It usually makes a set of random shapes, usually based round circles. This sounded and looked all too much like the description of the old crop circles.
A while back I found a few of these things for myself, and I Think that this wind damage could possibly account for the old crop circles. Have a look at my photos:
I have to add that I don't think wind/storm damage does account for these type of circles

If you mean the wind damaged crop,
This is not thought to be one of the curious 'crop circles' as such but is symptomatic of the wind damage caused on 23rd June to this crop of oats at Lowerfield some 2.5 km E of Royston. The strong winds were attributable to an unusually active (for the time of year) Atlantic low which crossed the British Isles bringing the first rainfall of note to Royston since early May. Even then the rainfall was not sufficient to ease the very dry conditions which quickly returned. The scene is as seen at 0821 GMT on 25th June 2004 in a SW breeze of 5 knots, gusting to 14 knots, and a temperature of 15.2°C. Daily sunshine was 13.2 hours.

Here's a story I read this morning about crop circles you may find interesting UFOhunter:
http://www.mosnews.com/news/2005/08/03/cropcircles.shtml A group of researchers in Russia claim they have solved the mystery of crop circles, the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily reports. According to them, plants bend as a result of microwave emissions caused by lightning strikes. The newspaper described an experiment conducted by researcher Stanislav Smirnov who placed several stalks of cereals in a microwave oven with a glass of water. He said the stalks bent in exactly the same way as those usually found at crop circles. Smirnov said he now has to find out how microwave emissions appear on fields. He has a theory that they come from underground, but cannot prove it. |

interesting tanya, i sure that could account for some of the complicated ones though, and the ones that contain messages.

I agree Chris, I don't see how it could account for more complex circles either.
