I remember when I was about 5 yrs old and lying in bed at nite trying to go to sleep and the bed would just begin to shake by itself. I was so terrified and would eventually jump up and run to my parents room to get my mother and she would come look under my bed but as always there was nothing. As soon as she woould tuck me in again and turn the light off and leave the room it would start again. I never experienced this again until two years ago and as soon as I felt it it was very frightening, but I had only felt it once and it never happened again. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever experinced this before?

I noticed your other post about your girlf.

Was the recent bed shaking episode when your girlf was with you?

At one time I would have said sleep paralyses (typo, fraid I only have one hand to type with here at present, Bandaged hand due to sliced tendons)) nightmares or earthquake.
I have had very vivid dreams and they were not pleasant, but I still believe in my case they were night terrors or sleep disturbances.
I'm not sure what your experience was but I hope you find some answers and find comfort or knowledge if possible.

If it happens again, try to control your fear. Get out of bed and stand away from it, to see if it stops or continues.
It may be a an unusual dream experience..you are partly awake..yet still retain continuing dream experience.
The least likely... but possible.. would be as you enter sleep, your subconscious is able to(telekinetically) cause the bed to shake.
Perhaps an indication of some hidden anxiety.

That happened to me twice. The first time, I was in college. A fire alarm woke me up, but I couldn't actually *wake up.* Then, the bed started to shake. The second time, I was living in Southern CA. I thought we were having an earthquake, so I woke my husband up. He said he didn't feel anything, so I went back to sleep. I think that when this happens, it's just a case of your body and your mind not being in sync when you first wake up. Both times, I was in a loft bed six feet up (although they were different loft beds in different states), so that might also have something to do with the strange shaking feeling.

Yes i agree with it being just your imagination sometimes can do that. When i lay in bed sometimes i think its shaking but when i get out of bed and watch it and it doesn't move then i usually dont feel it when i go back to bed.

My bed does shakes since high school and I could feel it, but no see it. Once I got up and sat down and could still feel it. One thing that I did was look at the fishtank in the bedroom and the water top level was dead flat. And I still feel it from time to time.

ive explained to my boyfriend about that used to happen to me but i think it must have been in my head. The bed used to shake and feel like it was spinning around and i would sometimes have gone to sleep and as i woke up it was still spinning and i would grab my bed as i woke as if to stop me falling. Now im realistic i don't think it was paranormal but was unusual.

I spin around in bed ... but that's beer, not poltergeists! tongue.gif

As for the bed-shaking, have you been under stress? The reason I ask is that, traditionally, poltergeists are connected to a person rather than a place. Extreme emotional upsets can often set them off. In the traditional literature, the focus of the poltergeist is often a brooding, angry boy. Boys are traditionally targets more often than girls. The theory is that the poltergeist feeds off the emotional energy. Another theory is that the target IS the poltergeist, unwittingly using some kind of telekinesis without realizing it, and then, in transference, blaming the invisible poltergeist for the angry outburst.

So I ask, have you been under stress? Angry lately? Upset?

Thats interesting, i always thought it was women that it happened to most. But anyway, another theory is that if you have limestone foundation under there homes. Also most cases are of children or teens manifesting poltergeists because of the stress at their age.

Sorry, I should clarify that: I've read more accounts of boys than girls, though I have read of both male and female poltergeist targets. I have NOT done research, so this may not be accurate, nor have I thoroughly explored poltergeist legends, case studies and phenomena.

When I'm not sure, I usually say I'm not sure, but this time, reading back, it's written pretty confidently, so I want to clarify: that's not necessarily true. Take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks, MGK:

The agent is usually female and under the age of twenty.

In this case, those subjects are mainly in puberty and girls rather than boys.

I had my covers pulled off of me a few times. Not sleep paralysis. I was wide awake. I don't encounter this much anymore because I sleep well. Well I shouldn't say well.. for the past 2 months I have been waking up gasping for air. It's because my weight goes up and does and I have sleep apnea. But i used to sleep like 3 hours a night and some nights I wouldn't sleep at all. Someone would say I hallucinated it. But I get up afterwards and the covers are completely pulled down to my knees. I am in real time feeling them being pulled off of me. And no one is in bed with me when it happens. No one is in the room. There is an overwhelming sense that someone is in the room with me. I feel their presence I also hear baby shuffles across the carpet. How do I know what that sounds like? Because our children used to run to our room and tell us the same stuff. When they ran to our room (wife and I) they made a distinct sound of small feet running across the carpet.

-Things that have happened in the last 4 home I have lived in as well as 2 houses when I was younger and before I met my wife.

-whispering of a human but in a jibberish like language with an occasional message in English.

-baby shuffle sounds on the carpet.

-Things getting knocked off the wall. Not like a picture hanger coming lose and object falling, but like someone grabbing it and throwing it. There is often small sounds in different parts of the room leading up to this.

Blanket or Comforter being pulled off of me or my wife but never when we're together.

A strange intense glowing light (like a glowstick or orb) glowing in the room then disapearing. twice I experienced it green, once it being a redish orange color.

-One time I was awaken to this brilliant light. I was half asleep so it took me about 20 seconds to focus on it. I was laying on my stomach when it was happening and propping myself up to focus on it. I thought to myself "My wife has to see this" and when I leaned over to tap on her she was already sitting above the covers in an "Indian" position with her legs folded just staring at it. She told me she was staring at it for 10 minutes. I got up to turn on the bedroom light. I went outside on my deck because it was very hot in the house. There were tons of shooting stars. I don't link the 2 but it was very strange to watch.

So, My wife and I have experienced the baby shuffle sounds but no one in the room (and no it's not our kids, this even happened before I we had our kids).

My wife and I experienced at least one glowing object in our room, but disappeared after I turned on the light and turned it back off.

We both experienced covers being pulled off of us while alone.

Only i hear the whispers. And though she heard something getting slammed down while in the other room sleeping in the baby's room, I actually felt the sense of coldness and saw stuff fly off of my dresser. I heard voices then I turned on the light and I saw something out of the corner of my eye and the photo on our dresser fell over but slid sideways then a rack of TV trays had looked as if someone kicked them over all in one motion.

Ghosts, Mind Experiments, Mass hallucinations? You tell me.

Trog, A few of your experiences are close to some that i have had as you may have read in my ghost topic a few months back. Like the items flying off tables or things, for me it only happened once where it was a cup. I see shadows, hear voices, and one experience was kind of like the light that you saw. With me i woke up sort of gasping and there was a bright light when i opened my eyes. And i'm going to admit i was scared :smokin: mainly because i was home alone and what would i do if i saw something like a ghost or alien :tease: , I'd probably pass out haha. Well I just closed my eyes and the light still could be seen a little with my eyes closed but i ended up falling asleep after a few minutes and getting the my breathe back.

But for you, one would argue sleep apnea induced hallucination because of a lack of oxygen.

I know I said I have had sleep apnea probably most of my life, but my wife doesnt. so why did we see the same thing at times? and why would me stop breathing for 5 minutes cause shit to fly off of my dresser. especially when I'm up and just turned on the light.

I was sick as hell that night from the flu, but not so sick that I imagined it. and my wife heard it and came in.
