No, really. Those people are so superstitious. Thinking things like you can't get AIDS if you have sex with a virgin etc. All those stupid fertility superstitions. By what they describe in the article, the people are starving, in part due to the fect that they throw most of their meat into some dingy puddle.

If it's the size of an olympic swimming pool, then it can't be that hard to find out exactly what creature lives there. If there is something there, then surely it will die if they stop feeding it, as there can't be that much renewable food in such a small and isolated volume of water.

True. If they throw offal and meat and animals in there, it's probably just the fetid flesh coming back up brought to the surface by methane gas from the decomposition.

Take into account where the report is coming from.

Didn't you know people used to see dragons all the time in England, back when people there still knew nothing of microscopic organisms and airborne diseases?
