It seems that people are taking some odd drugs to give themselves a mental boost.

The drug companys are still out of control with their magical antidotes for everything in life. All those drugs in that article have terrible side effects and should not be introduced to anyone.period College students strung out on speed? whatever

I think these ideas have been spread by word of mouth. Interestingly, during the last world war, it was common for those engaged in war work (not particularly front line troops) to take amphetamines in order to work longer hours and boost their own productivity, at least I know it was practiced in Britain.

Drugs were pretty rife in Vietnam too.

I don't mean merely "drug" use. I mean the sanctioned use of amphetamines for the specific purpose of making people able to do more work in a day. They probably used the same practice in Vietnam, but other drugs people most associate with that conflict--marijuana, heroin, LSD--nobody would think to take to make them do their jobs better, they would have been taken for reasons of escapism or as a form of protest by those who resented being forced to participate.

i don't think dundee mean't illegal drugs.there was one case, made in to a film called'Jacob's Ladder'.A platoon of us soldiers deep in the jungles were given drugs to make them more aggressive and to keep them awake.it made them so aggressive and paranoid they started shooting each other.the surviving vets about 5 or 6 were having delusions, paranoid delusions that something was out to get them, and something was because they wanted to take the us authorities to court because they sanctioned the use of these drugs.

performance enhancing drugs are illegal in sport, but so called smart drugs, even the ones to treat adht all have side efffects, every drug has one, thats why people do it.its the negative side effects or the long term effects of taking something too long, dependency and health damage.should intellectuals use them...hmmm!.....hell yeh..if it gets you there,it gets you there.

Wythe pharmaceuticals has completed its testing of a drug called MYO-29.
It is meant to block the protein that controls muscle growth...myostatin.
When it is blocked or not being produced your muscles are allowed to grow uncontrolled. The body will work to produce muscle 24/7.
It was tested on those with muscular distrophy.
No known side effects...yet.
How easy will it be to later obtain and to use?
For an athlete, it would be like a magic pill.

No, it isn't. The most generous description in Hollywood parlance is "inspired by". But you only have the word of the filmmakers that it is. There have been experiments in giving soldiers all sorts of drugs, but in the middle of combat in Vietnam? That is taking a risk with whatever unit is given them, plus whatever others may rely upon them and thus jeopardizes the conflict. But anyway, in Jacob's Ladder they are given mind-altering drugs, not stimulants or anything else that may be considered a "cognition enhancer".
