No, because the Universe is infinite, and the possibilities are also infinite.

I am not a spiritual person, but I can say that it is possible humanity may reach a state which current humanity would see as being godlike.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
Arthur C. Clarke, "Profiles of The Future", 1961 (Clarke's third law)

Given the age of the universe it is likly that some civalizations reached the industrial revolution 10 billion years ago. They may have attained all that the physical laws of the universe permit.

Yet due to the nature of the universe there will always be some final piece of information that is indeterminate. We cannot see before big bang and can only speculate on the final evolution. We cannot know the pre conditions that created it. Therefore there will always be some final bit of information that is indeterminate.

If there are races that have learned all that can be found within this limit then I would be leary of these lesser gods. With nothing new to learn they would only seek entertainment. Nothing is more entertaining than the drama of life and death. Ask shakespere and Steven King about that.

As to enlightenment and spirituality there is no end to achievement because there will always that which is just beyond perception.

Wrong. The Universe is for a fact NOT infinite, people have been watching it grow. Infinite things have no need to grow. I believe in Einstein's theory that when you reach the end you warp back to the beginning, and he has actual EVIDENCE to back it up, so that's me.

We will never be like God. Never. If we go somewhere someone else hasn't, that makes us by no means "god". I mean, Martin Luther King reached a place of peace where we hadn't been before. He probably went WITH God when he was shot, but he never BECAME God.

The visible Universe is finite, but the concept that the Universe is infinite is in fact also true. I know all about the shape of the universe and its density etc., but this is the religion forum, so I thought a generalisation was in order. If you would like to discuss the wrong or right of that, we can take it to the Physics forum.

The gaining of knowledge from without is infinite. The learning of our selves limited but vast.
We are but a new born child on the scale of evolution.

I see us evolving to a point where the thoughts of one are the thoughts of all and we soon merge to become a one super mind entity. Then we meet with others that followed this same path. Together we learn and reach a point where once again we merge and become ever more vast and powerful. This follows until the time is reached where creating our own universe is our next step.

Creating our own universe? We are genetically different in each way, even humans are genetically different [duh]. We cannot adapt to EVERY SINGLE THING'S eviornment at all, not even to the point where we could "share minds" with each other and create a new universe. I don't believe in evolution, but if you were to follow the theory of evolution, you'd STILL find no way for us to do this.

It's just not possible, not to physics, not to evolution, not to biology. Only God could do anything like this.

No. Human nature is littered with flaws, therefore, we always have room to grow.

As for technology, there can never be a limit when it comes to people broadening their minds to explore and invent things. You can't put a stop to be other people's ideas and what may come from them.

Yes, GrabThyHand, but I think the original question was do do with the extreme case. Given an almost unlimited time, and the resources of the Universe, can a life form such as humanity evolve to what will be viewed as a "god" (Whatever that means. I know it's vague.)?

Or maybe that's me interpreting it.. too much.
