This seems as a crime against all of humanity and future generations to me. But then again you have to consider the needs of the people in the area. Clean water is likly to become more of a crisis in the near future in some regions.

It demonstrates the environmental choices looming on our horizon. Some tough decisions. If the world wanted to preserve the archaeology perhaps they should be willing to fund making the area a reserve and move everyone in the area to another location. And fund the finding and development of a water source to replace the dam project.

No, I think the expense of such a project would be too much for them. Extinction of species never stood in the way of progress in the past. I think a bunch of rock carvings have little chance of survival.

One must wonder what undiscovered artifacts have been forever destroyed or lost in such ways.

Tiahuanaco lost much of it stonework when the spaniards and later peoples used the stones to build bridges.

I could just slap them for that.
